"Parish said people at the funeral shot back and killed the man, but WSB reported that police were still looking for the shooter and had detained three other people.

Well, at least they killed someone.

If you're going to carry it only makes sense to carry all the time. And if you think there are some places you would carry and others you wouldn't, it's smarter to avoid the former places altogether.

Georgia law prohibits the possession of firearms at any "house of worship", as the state government believes itself more qualified to establish church policy than church management. How, exactly, could such an incident have occurred?

Not sure, but the solution is obviously more laws.

Not defending anyone, but depending on the deceased's job, and how he died - attending the funeral armed may be perfectly reasonable.

For example: Gang banger killed by rivals who've promised more killings. If you were close enough to attend the funeral, going unarmed would be stupid.

/so... family members killed at a loved one's funeral...do they get a group discount?

Depends. Do they have to dig another hole or can they all use the same one?

/was astonished at how much "opening and closing" cost at my dad's funeral, especially since he was cremated.

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round

It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

Parish said a man arrived as mourners gathered in the parking lot at Victory for the World Church in Stone Mountain, just east of Atlanta, and began shooting.

...people at the funeral shot back and killed the man...

I would have never though to take a gun to a funeral, but I guess I will from now on.

In a thread about a shooting at a funeral, in Atlanta?

Doubtful. I was expecting someone to ask "Let me guess what color they are". Just par for the course, really.

The really sucky part is that it is a point:

Black on black gun crimes are seriously out of control. Almost every murder/shooting in my city is black on black, gang/drug related. The black community really needs to address this before anything else, IMNSHO.

Considering that a sizable number of those shot are not the intended targets, but innocent bystanders, I'd suggest mandatory marksmanship courses.

Start by strongly and continually speaking out against the elements in their culture that glorify and perpetuate violence, instead of making them millionaires and music award winners. Make Non-violent solutions to issues a part of their culture. Granted, that is a pipe dream, but it has to start somewhere, and it's not like anyone else will or even can do anything about it. It has to be their own. Hell, everyone freaked out about Zimmerman killing Trevon, but just about every week some young black man is killed by another in my city, and it's business as usual. Jesus Wept.

Also, glorify education instead of vilifying it.
