| umad I_Can't_Believe_it's_not_Boutros: This is why I think there should always be fencing on a cliff. I agree. Also, the face of each cliff should be bubble-wrapped, and every canyon should be filled with some kind of soft material. Nature is too dangerous. |

Woman falls head over heels So she jumped? Head over heels is the normal orientation. /heels over head is bad, m'kay? |

Shouldn't it be "heels over head"? Most people's heads are traditionally over their heels, most of the time. |

'loose rocks gave way beneath her as she was sitting near the edge of the ridge' Sad, but self inflicted. I see people standing right on the edge of huge drops or even overhangs - apparently they think it's a rock so it's permanent; it's been there billions of years and will be there billions more. Stuff erodes! You'd think that's obvious, but apparently not. It's just one of the risks you have to balance for yourself as long as you know it's a risk in the first place. |

glass_ibis: Yellowstone - it doesn't give a fark about anyone. From that page: thought they were jumping a small stream when they fell into Cavern Spring's ten-foot-deep boiling waters How do you not notice the water is "boiling"? Wouldn't the heat or smell - or something - give it away? |

Heels over head is usually a good position for a woman to be in, especially the good looking ones. |
||
| Ranger Joe This is odd. Usually the Xanterra employees get drunk and fall into a geyser. |

Vic Romano: And here we are, top of the first, One run in on what will prove to be a most interesting series. Yellowstone is up one/nil against Zion already and its a point of pride since Zion has led this long running series the past 5 years. Kenny Blankenship: Well Vic, Zion fans don't have to worry for too long. The much anticipated bloated tourist season is coming soon and boy will there be some grand slams when the Emerald Pools claim their usual victims. Vic Romano: Now Kenny, those Emerald Pools have nothing on Yellowstones toxic, and may I remind you BOILING hot acid, pools all over the place. Hell, one boy fell in and only made it two strokes before he sank like a stone back in 1970. Kenny Blankenship: Vic, those folks all died by accident and/or stupidity. Zion gets people voluntarily. Emerald Pools causes heart attacks galore and Angels Landing is good for a few. Zion puts up solid numbers, consistent numbers. I'm going to have to go with Zion this year Vic. |

In 2011, rangers say, 21 people died in Grand Canyon National Park NOT counting the people who just dropped dead of heart attacks or something while visiting. I think the Grand Canyon wins year after year. |

HAMMERTOE: cryinoutloud: I think the Grand Canyon wins year after year. [i12.photobucket.com image 640x477] Oops! There goes another one... yeah, go ahead and laugh, but at the same time I looked up that other number, I saw a story about a guy who faked falling off the side for his daughter, who tried to ignore him. He then fell for real. She ignored that too. No, just kidding. But only the last sentence. Sad to say this is true. In 1992, 38-year-old Greg Austin Gingrich leaped atop the guard wall and wind-milled his arms, playing-acting losing his balance to scare his teenaged daughter, then he comically "fell" off the wall on the canyon side onto a short slope where he assumed he could land safely. As his daughter walked on, trying not to fuel her father's dangerous antics by paying attention to them, Gingrich missed his footing and fell silently about 400 feet into the void. It took rangers quite a while to locate his body -- and to determine that his daughter was an orphan only due to his foolishness. |
