It's easy to believe someone else would be crazy enough to do that do her but not that she'd ever do it to herself? Maybe she liked the idea of going out in a blaze of purifying flames but had the gun handy just in case it was too painful or something went wrong.

Gyrfalcon: If I was on fire, I'd probably shoot myself to stop the pain. However, if I had a gun and was bent on suicide, I doubt I'd set myself on fire first just for the lulz and then shoot myself after, you know?

I can imagine someone doing it, just a bit differently:

Spread gas, light fuse, shoot. The idea would be to ensure you didn't live on as a vegetable if the shot wasn't perfect.

I do think it's not likely, though. If you want a backup to ensure you die take a bottle of tylenol. It would be no good as a primary method but if you're already out of it from a gunshot you're not going to mind what the tylenol does to you.

Actually, a handful of vicodin would probably do you in by itself but it's a nasty way to go.

They say you can't stop them if they're committed to suicide.

This man would like to discuss the ability of the on-fire to handle firearms.

People determined to commit suicide do use multiple simultaneous methods to ensure they are successful. While it does stretch the imagination a bit, it is up to the investigators and lawyers to see this is proved, "beyond a reasonable doubt."

I just hope whatever the truth is, they get it right in court. I say this for all trials.

I recall seeing a video of a guy with AIDS protesting the lack of spending in finding a cure AIDS, actually do this on an overpass in CA. He set himself on fire inside his truck then escaped the truck, stripped the burning clothes off himself and then shot himself in the head with a shotgun. I think it happened in the late '80's.

Perhaps she poured the gas on herself, put the can back on the porch, then lit the gas and then shot herself.

You'd have to be "on a mission" to do that but it does sound possible. But I'm nowhere near woman enough to try it myself though.

So yes, it is clearly possible to set yourself on fire and then shoot yourself. The guy in this video wasn't very good at the fire part though.
