I knew somebody that stole a tow truck to steal cars when I was in welding school. He stopped coming to class, which is a shame because those were some crazy ass stories. |

Meth helps you efficiently steal cars! |

That isn't new at all. Stolen dealer plates is another one that gets used a lot. |

This is becoming more common as more and more cars have "immobilizer" systems which make it nearly impossible to start the car without a key. Thieves just get hold of a tow truck, drive up to the target vehicle, and take it away. |

This wasn't news back in the 1950s. |

This was a problem in Orlando for a few months. They would steal cars (Honda Accords, mostly) in broad daylight at a local mall, nobody even looked twice at the tow truck... ...until the day someone walked right up to their car while the thief was in the middle of stealing it. |

Why not just start a towing business? Reckonthatis.com |

But what do they use to steal the tow truck? |

How bootstrappy... I'm sure the Republicans hail this as the 'Free Market' showing its worth. |

Yeah.. I always thought simply towing a car away would be the best way of stealing it. Especially with those repo ones that just pull up and drive away in like 20 seconds flat. Even better: tow/steal cars that legitimately are illegally parked etc. |

I believe the city of Chicago is pretty good at this. |

Even better: tow/steal cars that legitimately are illegally parked etc. Bad idea. The state doesn't give two shiats if you take property from mundanes, but if you start doing that, you're depriving the state of revenue, and they will come down on you like hellfire. |

| semiotix Slowjoejoe: Why not just start a towing business? Why not just steal a tow truck factory? Huh... why not just steal a tow truck factory? |

Funny, I never realized there was any difference between most tow truck drivers and car thieves. How could you tell? They're both probably taking the cars to mob-owned rackets, whether it's the tow yard or the chop shop. |

Just like the best lockpick in the world is a sledgehammer, the best slimjim is a tow truck. And seriously, you can buy a tow truck for nothing - good used ones can be found for two grand. The second best tool for moving cars are wheel dollies. |
