| jaylectricity Middleborough has had a bylaw against public profanity since 1968. But it's rarely, if ever, been enforced, because it essentially makes swearing a crime. The new proposal would decriminalize profanity, allowing police to write tickets as they would for traffic violations. Who'da thunk that we would decriminalize marijuana before we decriminalized shiat, fark, coont, motherfarker, cock sucker and tits? |

Props to MA for being itself. Towns, Cities, Counties, States, if you want to do your own thing, farking go for it! That's what I love about federalism: I don't have to live with you. You still get to be petty dictators for lulz/whatevz, but I don't have to put up with your crap. I would like to see the federal government recede and smaller polities flourish in its relinquished sunlight. |

$20? Holy sh*... cr*... FARK! |

Middleboro's (and yes, that's a legit spelling also) funny like that. You can get lost on 104 in the sticks, just don't swear about it. |
||
| taurusowner
It will be interesting to see how quickly it's legally challenged on First Amendment grounds. |

Wangiss: I would like to see the federal government recede and smaller polities flourish in its relinquished sunlight. Yes, because not having a farking clue what the laws are every time you stray fifty feet from home is a farking brilliant idea. /drops two more twenties in the swear jar |

Never spent much time in Middleboro, but from I what I remember it's a town I could probably pass through without swearing. But, Lowell? Lawrence? Other sh*thole Mass towns? |

I have a friend on the force down there and he says they are not looking to enforce it really, it is m,ore of an appeasment for some people down there. Mainly they are focusing on specific area wher it has been complained about. Basically, it was passed and will not be used much. Most of the town is the sticks, I think it is one of the 2 or 3 biggest cities/towns in the state but not a large population. |

Just one example: right-on-red laws vary around the nation. If you don't know the local laws, you either risk running a light illegally, or the ire of your fellow motorists for forcing them to wait at a light where you're legally allowed to turn. Do you carry the local driving codes for the entire country everywhere you go? I sure as hell don't. For most things, local laws are idiotic in a country that doesn't have internal borders. Federal laws make far more sense, both so you actually know what the laws are as you travel inside the country, and so there's a level playing field for everybody. But you're trolling, and I get that. |

I'm not one for ridiculous fines for the state to raise money, but this needs to be done. I swear plenty, but in public I exercise discretion like a normal adult. So many times I'm on a bus or in a public place like a store in the mall and there's some idiotic immature moron going all "goodfellas" on their cellphone. Hay idiot, no one wants to see you're tough guy mobster impersonation so shut the fark up. Fine them and take their phone away for being the child they are. And, no,, spewing vulgarities to be an attention whore is not freedom of speech. |

Oh, brother... When will people understand that words can't hurt you, they're just words. If everyone lived by this rule, there would be no such thing as "bad words", just "words". There are plenty of words that don't fall under the category of profanity that offend me, but when I hear them, I just ignore it and get on with my day. Thats exactly what these uptight people should do instead of trying to police my every action. Free speech is my right as an American... see Free Speech Zone map above... |

Meh, this city in TN has had it for awhile. The officers don't use it until they have to deal with a drunken idiot at a restaurant though. Then it's just another ticket to slap on. |

Meh. This city in TN has had it for awhile. It's usually not slapped on until the police handcuff a drunk idiot for a few charges. Cuss at em, get a bigger fine. |
