Hm, is this the CBC montage? Mooney says the CBC one was set to Coldplay.

Am I the only one who found this cup to be one of the least entertaining in recent history? Probably had something to do with half the teams involved having less than apathetic fan bases.

If you leave out the LA Kings, this montage was 90% Eastern Conference and 10% Western. Include the Kings, and it's probably 70/30.

And shots on goal totals that were anemic at best. Hell, 2 games went to overtime, but in one of them New Jersey still only had 17 freaking shots! The other overtime game was the only game where both teams went over 30 shots. Boring much?

Most of the teams I either liked or hated were done after the first round. The second round took care of the rest of the teams I had any feeling towards.

Well, it depends on who did that montage. If it was the CBC, they were exclusively Eastern Conference after the 1st round until midway through the Conf. Finals

Then again, I don't think they would've used NBC clips at the end.

If the Kings suck, pretty much by definition that means the other 29 teams suck worse.

The first round was fun when something like half the games played went to overtime.

But by the Conference finals, all the teams that liked scoring goals were eliminated and we got 3 weeks of watching teams that played like they had 5 goalies on the ice.

And had it been called, the cup wouldn't have been decided by a glorious five minute 5 on 4. Hooray.

Alternatively, the Devils could have, you know, not given up 3 goals during said power play.

That would've been a candy-ass penalty to call in a Finals game. No one forced the Devils to try to hit a guy in a far more dangerous position shortly thereafter.

There was a strong element of wtf in their heads by that point. Anyone confronted by that much distracting bs would have a hard time remaining unfazed. The quick goal sealed it.

Next up, "Professionals should not be distracted."

But it clearly disoriented them that a slow-motion board wherein no one got injured and really, there are harder hits every other second in the game was not treated the same as boarding a guy so he goes face-first into the boards and spills a pint of blood on the ice! It was just so unfair, it went back in time and forced them to lose the first three games, then they just stopped paying attention on the penalty kill because the refs were CLEARLY out to help the Kings!

I think there is a "don't get it" virus that makes people converse about everything not in a conversation. The cup was decided in one game. How could anyone possibly think, or even construe, that the previous games had any relevance to the game played last night, wherein the 5 minute major penalty was called because play went on after a guy was introduced to the bench glass face first?

How is it posssible that the previous games should enter into that discussion? This is not rhetorical. It makes no sense.

You know there's no glass on the benches, right? Getting hit into nothing is never going to draw a penalty quite like getting hit head-first into glass to the point where your face bleeds all over the ice.

When I first saw the video, I thought his head snapped back from a glass divider/stanchion, but it was his entire body coming off the boards. I do think it deserved a boarding call.

The Gionta hit could/should have been called, but that it was not isn't deserving of using it as an excuse for the Devils getting beat. Calls are missed in every game. It's still up to a team not to let in 3 PP goals on one major.

Was thinking about this last night and came to the conclusion thats what happens when you go down 3-0 in a series. It's not so much winning 4 straight, but it's winning 4 straight without getting screwed on a single call/non-call. Every series has those types of calls, but when you're down 3-0 you need to play perfect and the refs need to be perfect (which is pretty much impossible, thus why coming back from 3-0 has only happened a handful of times).

I had no real dog in the fight. However I was rooting for LA to lose, simply for the fact we now have to deal with a fanbase that is 80% fairweather (don't argue it, LA cares only about basketball. With the Lakers out, they all hopped on the Kings bandwagon) trying to pretend they know anything about hockey.

When they get the puck in the goal from behind the center line does it count as 2 points?

The Kings had better attendance numbers than 15 other teams including the Devils.

Might just be me, but the Wings v Predators clip was meh. Glad the footage showed Lidstrom, and we had Bert in a fight, but the goal scored was on an obscene defensive breakdown by us which was near impossible not to score on; not exactly the best effort by the Predators. Still, the montage was great, conveying the majority of the action of each series and working through the story to the cup.

The problem wasn't just that one hit. LA targeted players in every series and there was a hit exactly like the one the LA player took last night on the Blues best player in game one of the LA-STL series. That hit changed the whole series and for the LA fans that say it didn't...think how any of your series would have gone if Doughty was taken out in game 1. Your bandwagon would be a lot less full at this point of the season.

The end result would have been the same regardless of that penalty call. You can't claim the Kings win is tainted when they would have ended up winning anyway. There are too many improbable assumptions that would have to be true for that one call to have somehow "given" the cup to LA.

A short list of hypotheticals:
- The boarding call was the right call, the time assessed for the penalty is the real only complaint. Let's assume it was only a 2 minute penalty.
- The first PP goal from LA came within the first 2 minutes of the PP. So that goal would still have stood.
- The Devils still scored only 1 goal that game, even with pressing. The Kings still scored 1 goal aside from the 3 PP and 2 EN goals. So at best you're looking at the Kings leading 2-1.
- The Devils would have to somehow have played better to get the game tied 2-2 and win in overtime, or score 3 goals to win in regulation. 3 would be really unlikely since they had only scored 2 against Quick in any game the whole series.
- So not only would the Devils have to find a way to get to OT, but then they would have to win in OT then go to game 7 win there as well.

I have to pipe in, reluctantly.

Kings deserve the credit, as they peaked at the absolute perfect time and proved that nobody in the league could run with them throughout the playoffs. Full marks to the GM, coaching staff, and players for getting it done.

I was kind of bored, for selfish reasons, by most of these playoffs- my team was out early, that's part of it. The compelling stories seemed to die out too early this time around. Let's hope the CBA doesn't cause a train wreck for next season.

Finally, my biggest gripe on this montage: the music. Anything would be better, this does nothing to spark interest. The video editing and the effort are there, and I appreciate the time and thank the contributor, but whoever OK'd the music could use an evaluation. Just my humble opinion.
