I'm not sure if they are the biggest dumbasses in the world or have the biggest balls of steel in the world.

Possibly both.

No shiat. I love how instead of using the walkway, they climb around beside the walkway on the outside of the rails/cable. Darwin really missed out here.

I'd be paralyzed with fear if I suddenly found myself up there. On the plus side, if you fell it would be over relatively quickly.

I don't think that I could go up there w/o a parachute.

That was awesome, I would love to go up there but I would only climb around with hooks and harnesses because I'm sane.

Watching it on video, no reaction. If I were doing it in person, holy shiatballs, I would definitely not be walking around on the outside of it, the walkway would be more than sufficient, and both hands would be on something solid whenever possible.

My vertigo has progressed over the years, but that wasn't too bad.

/one time in Paris, I was directly under the Eiffel Tower (centered on the ground) and I looked up and got so dizzy I fell to the ground. Almost passed out.
Is that called reverse vertigo?

//also hugged the walls of the Vatican's rotunda at the top

No, just biggest dumbasses. I'd say the guys who climbed up that structure every darn day to *build* the structure, anchor the cables, stuff like that might have somewhat bigger balls.

I don't get how videos like this are supposed to make you feel anything, there's no depth of feel to it. You can't hear or feel the wind, with pieces of the structure chattering and swaying.

And I wonder what makes people have a fear of heights. A specific fear is usually a learned behavior. A fear of heights seems like nonsense to me, your fear is a bigger danger than the height itself. Get over yourself, you're the hazard.

I'm pretty sure they were wearing parachutes. Which disappointed me that they didn't jump.

And the fisheye lens was annoying. Fisheyes are cool for still photos and very short video work. That was too much.

So...people should just get over their phobias? Wow! Such insight! You must be a psychologist or something.

My son was riding on my uncle's shoulders when he was little. My uncle was walking around with him and my son got a little too squirmy and my son fell off of his shoulders. He was physically okay, but after that he had a definite fear of heights.

I have pretty bad vertigo. Made my palms sweat and I felt like I might toss my cookies.

And: Nope, nope, nope. If I came to up there (no memory of the climb) I'd starve to death. There'd be no way I could do anything else. They wouldn't be able to pry my hands off the metal with the jaws of life. And I know -- I've USED them before.

/Well, Holmatro, but same concept.

Maybe it's a human trait. Isn't our nervous system pretty much designed to react to us falling and/or things falling on us?

Tens of thousands of years of learning not to die? It's instinctual.

I'm saying this as someone who regularly works in gridwork or pipe structures 60 to 100 feet in the air.

As the man who taught me much of what I know about rigging said: "If you aint' scared, you ain't right."

It's about controlling that fear.

Just for perspective: The Pylons height approx 220m or 720'

So add another 100' or so for the crane, then slide along the length of the boom outward.

So you would get to enjoy about 7 seconds before you go splat.

TheYeti: Not for all the vodka in the world.

The photos showed that that was either early spring or late fall (no leaves on the trees). You have to figure it was fairly cold, as they are located north of the northern tip of North Korea, and being that high up only makes it colder. It has to be moist as hell, considering the location on the bay, meaning the steel is cold, wet, and slippery. Now factor in the swaying of the bridge, and the wind whipping around them... Yeah, no thanks.

These videos don't just make my palms sweat, they make my plams HURT. As in actual pain sensations. What possible medical reason or survival instinct could account for sweaty, painful palms when viewing something like this?
