The 7-Up/baby ad is fake (so is the "Start cola early" ad).

According to this article, Old Yeller Dog Food was the result of a collaboration between Disney & Kroger.

apparently the 7up ad is legit

the 'start cola early' ad is a well-documented hoax.

I noticed Old Yeller dog food back when I lived in Anaheim, Ca.

I was in a grocery that was about 3/4 of a mile from Disneyland. They had a big stack of bags of Old Yeller. I just scoffed at the stupidity of the brand, but I doubt a lot of folks would even think twice about it.

Old Yeller.....good to the last shot.

I fully believe that "New Coke" was a fully calculated move by the Coca Cola
corporation to simultaneously increase their brand awareness and allow them
to substitute HFCS for sugar without telling anyone.

Old Coke was losing shares, so Coca Cola decided to taste more like Pepsi.

Oh, we were livid.

The brought back the original with HFCS, so it still sucks, but not as bad as NC.

There is no disputing this, it's simply a fact.

The funny thing is, New Coke actually WAS successful: when they swapped the sweetener and changed it's name to Diet Coke. Same formula, different sweetener. And isn't Diet Coke more popular than regular Coke? Think I read that somewhere.

/And Coke Zero is regular Coke with aspartame (or whatever it is now).

Good quick way to tell if a restaurant is a cheap, shiatty place is if they serve Pepsi products instead of Coke. Also, Pepsi sucks.

One major problem with Pepsi Max is that it's gawd-awful when warm. I love it when it's cold, but to try drinking it warm? Forget about it. Love the extra caffeine in it too. Also, it has aspartame in it (it was initially called Diet Pepsi Max when it came on the market, but then Pepsi decided to drop the Diet moniker), which a lot of people do not like.

I think you have it backwards. Legend goes that after the launch of Diet Coke, Coca-Cola's focus group data was showing that people preferred the sweeter taste of Diet Coke to the regular version. So they figured that reformulating regular coke to be as sweet as Diet Coke would further improve sales.

The funniest misguided commercial I ever saw was for DHL (a shipping service). It showed delivery trucks flying around with very stirring music by Wagner. The music was the overture to "The Flying Dutchman". I lol'd.

/A key plot point to the opera was that the eponymous Dutchman had been cursed and was doomed to sail forever without making port.

Only half the list is really about bad marketing campaigns. The rest are products that failed or are questionable which also included a marketing campaign. And just naming a dog food Old Yeller, as stupid as it is to use that name, barely counts as I've never seen any ads for it but have seen it at Kroger stores.

Why does every "worst marketing campaigns evar" article include Crystal Pepsi? It was simply Pepsi without the caramel coloring, it tasted exactly like regular Pepsi. It's not Pepsi's fault that the average American consumer is a mouth-breathing short bus rider.

And didn't it come out at a time where pretty much every beverage manufacturer has jumped on the clear liquids bandwagon? IIRC, Zima was breaking huge at about the same time.

It was an example of an okay car coming out in the exact wrong circumstances. The late 50s saw a downturn in the postwar economy, people were getting tired of the chromed out, tailfin look, and the Edsel cost more than a Ford but wasn't much different than a Lincoln. It was a redundant Mercury.
