Telling people they'll overturn the Obamacare law that bans insurance companies from denying coverage for "pre-existing conditions?" Oh, that's not a gaffe.

So, basically both camps have young'uns working for them that know how to use this inter-tubes thing.

Good news. Maybe we can choose a president on merit alone.

/ O, wonder!

/// How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
//// That has such people in't!

While Mr. Preston is spinning some of the facts a little hard, he's pretty much on target with this list, Romney is doing a great job shaking out the bugs and ironing out the wrinkles in his campaign. But he's got a lot of catching-up to do if he's going to compete successfully against the Obama re-election machine. It is summer, though, which means most people are more interested in the release of Prometheus than they are with the election score-card, so there's plenty of time for both sides to hone their attacks.

I agree, Lucky LaRue. And it gives both sides time to really screw up, like Romney repealing Obamacare and its ban on denying coverage of pre-existing medical conditions.

/I'm voting for President Obama myself.

Same, here. I have a hard time convincing myself there are political reasons for it: Romney's political record (sans the rhetoric) has been about as moderate as Obama's (I really don't think Romney is going to touch Obamacare except to improve it - assuming SCOTUS doesn't kill it). I can live with partisan reasons, though, and denying the far right a victory is as good a reason as any..

I am interested to see if Romney can navigate a path that appeals to the moderates without estranging his base. If he can do that, I think he'll win. I don't think he can do that, though..

Meh. I'm already decided about it, I'm voting for Obama. His policies are better, his execution on his end has been pretty good, the only problem is he has had to deal with the total bag of shiat that is Congress and the Supreme Court. Thank you for that America. Because that, too, is your fault.

The American people can suck it. I'm so tired of this country and I'm burned out on politics already. If you seriously want a douchebag the size of Romney to lead your nation, go fark yourselves America. Seriously go fark yourselves. You want a shiny job. You want an education. You want medical care. You don't want anyone, including yourselves or rich people, to pay for it. No you'd rather pass those obligations on to your children. You'd rather vote obstructionists into office.

Good luck with that.

For getting elected, no.

But what about actually governing?

1) He's not black and all the racists can gleefully vote for him while deluding themselves that they're actually voting for his "policies" even though no one knows what they are
2) He won't say what he'll actually do as President other than "not be Obama" and "not do what Obama is doing"
3) He occasionally slips up and says what he really's thinking, and it's usually something horrible, like "there's too many firemen / policemen / teachers and we need to get rid of them" and the worst part is nobody actually cares when he says stuff like that
4) Thanks to Citizens United, tons of uber-rich assholes can give his Superpacs millions of dollars at a time
5) He lies all the goddamn time, and they are often huge, glaring lies and again, no one seems to care that he's a perpetual liar

Perhaps. But I think he's also uncovering new bugs.

What I'm hoping is that he focuses alot more on this - campaign polish. Which will leave him as woefully unprepared for the debates as I expect him to be.

Romney still doesn't have a ground game in all 50 states, or has that changed since March?

My favorite thing about the teleprompters meme is that the folks who perpetuate it often seem to clearly have no idea how teleprompters work ("you can see that they're off when Sarah is on stage with them!" and other nonsense).

If by "rapid reponse" you mean "shrill and decisive finger pointing at ANYTHING the President does no matter what" then I suppose that's on point.

If by "message discipline" you mean: changing position and denying that you ever said any of the things that there is a public record of you saying, then yeah, he's right on point.

If you mean "effective offense" you mean "opposing anything that his opponent supports, even if I supported it before" then, yeah, it's on point.

If by "looking like a winner" you mean "outspending my opponents while not having done much of anything for the last five years save campaigning and losing the last Primary" then, yeah, I suppose that's on point too.

I'll give him fundraising, though to be fair, he is hitting up extraordinarily large donors, who will expect some return on their investment, as opposed to smaller donations from more people.

So far, the most effective campaign ads for the President have been Romney's own words. That is pretty much going to continue, and the sad thing is, Romney is going to keep paying for the privilege of campaigning for Obama...

With Romney its possible. He will come out against something Obama is doing and then propose that if he was in charge he would do what Obama is doing. (See arming Syria resistance as a recent example of this)

Mitt, all this flip-flopping didn't work for John Kerry, your brother from a Democratic mother. What makes you think it will work for you?

\Funny thing, a friend of the family works for Kerry, and she despises Mitt. Takes all my energy to bite my tongue and not tell her they're the exact same person 8 years apart.

There simply are not enough THIS's for this. This is exactly how I feel about the whole shiat sandwich.

I think that Obama could have been a great president, one of the greatest, if it wasn't for the insane republicans. If politics still worked the way it did when he and I were growing up, this country would be in a much better position. Let's hope the president uses his next four years to ram as much progressive legislation through as he possibly can since it's his last term. But as Morgan from X-Play says: "We should learn not to hope"

I learned from the comments that Osama was just a sick old mad in a cave. Obama was playing golf and made it to the situation room just in time for the photo-op. The seals did everything.

Now if a republican would have gotten him...
Osama was full strength looking Hulkish as Bush brandished a dull knife and fought him to the death. It was an 8 second battle. Of course he spiked the football. What? You don't think he should celebrate killing our number one terrorist?

And 5 things Mitt is doing correctly? More like 5 things the Republican Party does correctly. The Republicans have been significantly better at playing the political game than the Democrats for quite some time now. Democrats are stuck on issues and policy and reality. Issues, policy and reality are essentially meaningless these days. The (D)'s need to wake up.

A) We have too damn many Teachers, cops and firefighters

B) Insurance Companies SHOULD be allowed to deny you coverage based on pre-existing conditions, even for kids-unless you've never lost a job and/or not had insurance for a single moment of your life.

c) eh. Asian? Hispanic? really what's the diff?

Is some sort of master of message discipline and rapid response? Okaaaay....

You can't call the Republicans insane. You can call them douchebags or selfish but you cannot call them insane. If the (R)'s let Obama be a great POTUS that makes him and the (D)'s look good and that gets him re-elected. It's not about what's best for the country, it's about winning an election. They actually directly told us that, their number one goal was not the economy or national security or the national debt.

I cite Two and a Half Men, Dancing with the Stars, Snooki, and the sorry ass infotainment from the 24 hour "news" networks as my evidence.

What, like 11-12 in a row as I write this?

No obvious political slant here, right?

You mods could just, you know, get your tongue out of the GOP's ass and try for something actually balanced that reflects your readership instead of trying to shove one particular viewpoint down their throats.
