| Confabulat I don't remember Disney promising anything like that except to keep them out of Disney World, because rival Universal already has dibs on Spider-Man and Hulk in Orlando. |
||
| timujin If this means a version of Universal's Hulk ride on the west coast, even if it's at Disneyland, I'm all for it. |
||
| Diogenes timujin: If this means a version of Universal's Hulk ride on the west coast, even if it's at Disneyland, I'm all for it. Just as long as they keep their grubby, mousy mitts off my Universal Hulk coaster. I have annual passes. |

Who cares if they put Marvel Comic Characters in Disney Parks? Was this really a concern for someone? |

| Diogenes The Homer Tax: Who cares if they put Marvel Comic Characters in Disney Parks? Was this really a concern for someone? Orlando. Universal already has a big investment in Marvel in Islands of Adventure. Hence the Orlando provision mentioned in the article. |
||
| FirstNationalBastard Who gives a fark about characters in a theme park? I just want Marvel to hurry the fark up and release a giant Alan Moore/Neil Gaiman Miracleman Omnibus. It's been almost three years since they announced they had bought the rights to the character. Haven't they dealt with the legal quagmire yet? |

| Babwa Wawa The Homer Tax: Who cares if they put Marvel Comic Characters in Disney Parks? Was this really a concern for someone? I know, right? Who really gives a crap? And BTW, the Avengers as it is in the theaters now could NEVER have been delivered without Disney wholly owning Marvel. Movies based on marvel characters never cracked the $150M budget mark before Disney bought them, because nobody's going to invest that amount of money building a franchise that they might not eventually fully own. And the movie budget is only one aspect - the promotional aspects of the deal are priceless. Warner's budget and development of DC Comic characters was slowly choking Marvel to death. Not to mention the fact that without these large media companies owning the characters, the comic book industry as we know it would be dead. |

Diogenes: Orlando. Universal already has a big investment in Marvel in Islands of Adventure. Hence the Orlando provision mentioned in the article. Gotcha. Makes sense. So the real headline should read: "Remember when Disney was contractually obligated to keep the Marvel Characters out of their Orlando theme parks? They are still honoring that." |

| jayhawk88 Look, you can't please comic nerds. If you give them gritty reality, they complain that they want wide-eyed adventure. If you give them wide-eyed adventure they complain they want classic space opera, etc etc. Comic books could come with coupons for free blow-jobs and comic nerds would complain that what they really want is a handy. They live to argue. |

THIS But keep making shiat up in your head subby to enforce your outrage... I see you DRTFA as well since it says they've been in development, and they're just speeding it along now as well as them focused on making sure it makes sense. |

Maybe a comic geek can help a dude out? How did the Marvel franchise get fragmented between Fox, Sony and Disney? Seems to me that if you could bring together the X-Men, Spiderman and what Disney has done, you'd have a movie so awesome, it would probably destroy the Earth (and cost enough to fight a major war) |

| verbaltoxin Marvel and DC are IP farms. They don't make comics. They make fan fiction. Want proof? Avengers vs X-Men. |
||
| Babwa Wawa FirstNationalBastard: With these large media corporations owning the big two, comics as we knew them are dead. Without these large media companies subsidizing print comics, they simply would not exist. My 7 year old can get comics the same way that I could when I was a kid. Without Warner and Disney, he wouldn't. I like to hate on big media companies as much as the next guy - they've certainly f*cked up their distribution model by trying to hang onto the 1980s, but in this particular case, they've literally saved the superhero comic book industry. |

| Mugato Confabulat: I don't remember Disney promising anything like that except to keep them out of Disney World, because rival Universal already has dibs on Spider-Man and Hulk in Orlando. As far as I know, they have the whole Marvel Universe. They have a Fantastic Four ride and characters from the X-Men and ones I don't recognize running around. So if Universal does also somehow have rights to the characters, I have an idea what the "exciting new project" they're putting in place of the Jaws ride they just closed. |

Islands of Adventure in Orlando basically has an entire Marvel world (like the Harry Potter world on the opposite side of the park entrance). IIRC they even replicated like the Daily Bugle building and other landmarks from major Marvel franchises. /Hulk ride is great //The park sucks as a whole though |

They saved an issue of a comic book coming out monthly. That's it. But the content? They destroyed the content by putting either professional fanboys or business suits with no creative background in charge of the content. |

I think it's the best of the major Orlando parks. They did a good job with Jurassic Park and even though I'm not into Harry Potter, they did a fantastic job with that. And their Halloween Horror nights are awesome. The older Universal Park is a little dated. |

Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk came out in 2008 and all the other movies were in the works before Disney acquired Marvel in 2009. The comic book industry was alive in 2008, as well. |
||
| Mugato T.rex: The concern was putting Disney characters into the Marvel universe, not vice versa... Yeah really, why would anyone object to their putting Marvel rides in Disney parks? It's just going to be in their crappy parks anyway, they're not allowed to do it in their Orlando parks. |

| moothemagiccow verbaltoxin: Marvel and DC are IP farms. They don't make comics. They make fan fiction. Want proof? Avengers vs X-Men. they're pretty pathetic IP farms. DC hasn't seen significant output since the 40s and marvel the 60s/early 70s. |

The comic book industry was alive in 2008, as well. And both of those put together don't have half the box office revenue of the Avengers has already, and each had a budget 2/3 that of Avengers. Better distribution, promotion, access to markets, theaters, foreign markets, etc leads to more money to make the films. That doesn't necessarily lead to better films, but it leads to more films in the genre. And the comic books - at least the superhero genre was dying in 2008. Now you've got DC Kids, Marvel Kids bringing up a fresh generation on superheros. It's not what you remember, but it's at least there, and without Disney and Warner, they wouldn't exist. |
