| Attention surgeons. Please make sure to read your operation orders in full, especially if they read: "Remove this patient's hip GROWTH" |

I once had a doctor who kept saying "left" when I was getting surgery on my right side. After I corrected him a few times he said "All those years of medical school and you'd think I'd know my left from my right." Still not sure he wasn't trolling me. |

GBB: After reading that whole article I have just 2 words: [www.thelocal.se image 146x97] Agreed. Those are the best part about Local.se. |

FTFA: "I deeply regret what has happened. It is a very serious health care injury," she told Aftonbladet. I'm not surprised. |

genepool lifeboat: RTFM Off topic, sorry: I once had a Windows tech (waaaaay back in the olden days, when you could get one on the phone) tell me I'd made an RTFM error. I told him that I'd read the manual, and if he could find the fix to my problem in it, I'd give him $50. He was properly embarrassed -- and he found out it was not in the manual, too. /true story |

Gough: My CSB: The surgeons from Mayo were cutting on me for the Nth time as part of my botched spinal fusion. Right after they wheeled me into the OR, they attached a large pad to my right thigh. I inquired as to the purpose of said pad and the surgeon replied that it was to help "cauterize the smaller blood vessels in the stump." When they're all wearing masks and you're already doped up, it's hard to tell that they're smiling about the joke.... Did you ask them about it when you were off the pain medication? Because I'd bet it was a fentanyl/morphine/anesthetic hallucination. Apparently lots of people have them. |

Because I'd bet it was a fentanyl/morphine/anesthetic hallucination. Apparently lots of people have them. After six weeks in the hospital and countless trips to the OR, I was no longer "opioid naive"...not by a long shot. I still felt dried up from the atropine, but the MS no longer did much for me. Plus, the comment was perfectly in keeping with the repartee that we were exchanging at that point. At one point, my surgeon called me from the surgical suite while his assistant was doing a hemipelvectomy. I asked him about all of the noise in the background: pneumatic hammers and saws, etc. He replied that they were repairing the front end of a heavily-damaged '57 Chevy. |
