Statues of soldiers holding guns is so cliche for military memorials; how about we sculpt a giant bunny instead?

Vietnam vet Frank Currin held his salute to protest Leroy -- renamed Peace -- a fiberglass bunny sculpture that went on display Sunday just feet away from a veterans memorial.

"Why isn't it down here where the playgrounds are. And they have it sitting right next to the monument," Currin said.

Solution: give the bunny a fuzzy machine-gun.

Why do these people have a problem with a rabbit near a memorial? If Easter has taught me anything, it's that rabbits are the symbol for Jesus. Instead, they should have a problem with public money going to sponsor such a blatant Christian religious display as this.

The rabbit is a symbol of Dedham Pottery, which made the towns name back in the 19th century. If the veterans in this article need to unclench their machismo and realize that it is actually an honor to have the town symbol right next to their memorial.

When the veterans want to do something, we allow them to do those things. Why can't the town of Dedham put the bunnies that show the spirit of Dedham where they want to go?" said Paul Grimes, a Navy veteran.

Because people like to whine like little biatches, it makes them feel important. Just like posting on Fark.com.

Sounds like some veterans need to unwad their panties and put on their big boy pants. What a bunch of whiny little biatches. Seriously. It is not like the statue was put on top of the veteran memorial or of something offensive like a soldier killing a baby. It was a farking bunny rabbit. And not only that, but it was one that had some pretty big historical significance for their town.

Someone should fetch the holy hand grenade, but throw it at the whiny little veterans who got all butthurt over this.

The bunny is an iconic symbol of Dedham pottery -- part of the town's history. Leroy was created by an artist and veteran to honor a local vet who died in January.

The vets are protesting an art fixture created by a vet to honor a vet. Brilliant.

So it's not ony a symbol of the town but was created by a vet for another vet that died. Seriously it's public ground and can be used for the public good as the public sees fit. I side with veterens on a lot of things but they should just let it go before they look silly.

How about a lamb marching towards the war memorial.

French soldiers in WWI used to baaahh like sheep as they marched into the front lines for battle. Brass farking balls.

A local veterans group is angry over a large bunny on display as part of a public art project meant to raise funds and generate interest in the arts. The display is next to a veterans memorial.

Anyone else notice the irony? A veterans group is protesting a bunny statue because of its proximity to a veterans memorial. The bunny statue was created by an artist who is a veteran and was created to honor a deceased veteran, making it a veterans memorial too. That means a veteran group is protesting that a veterans memorial is placed too close to a veterans memorial.

For some reason, the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the headline was the one time back in college when I watched a group of ROTC guys in BDUs wander aimlessly through the rec center singing the "Veggie Tales" theme song at the top of their lungs. No real idea why.

I don't understand the insistence that if a public park has a war memorial on it that's the only thing that can be there. I may have to drive over there and look at it myself. I think it's the park at the below coordinates. It looks like it's plenty big enough to contain both And it's hardly like it's in any way distasteful or reflects poorly on the military or veterans. I usually side with veterans but this just seems a little stingy.
