I'm typically against clever word play in headlines. It's usually a cheap replacement for actual humor and I think it gets far too much respect around here.

But I'm going to allow this one. Well done, submitter.

He [Rubio] eventually gained more support and Crist dropped out of the primary.

Crist ran as an independent in the general election but lost badly.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Crist was all but officially excommunicated from the Party for daring to provide the Enemy with anything other than staunch, vehement, adamant opposition (read: Crist shook Obama's hand instead of spitting in it)

THAT is why there was a spike in support for Rubio and a nosedive in support for Crist, which in turn resulted in Crist leaving the GOP so he could still have a shot at the Senate seat by running as an independent.

Why else do you think Romney is drawn to him as a potential Veep?

vpb: So Rubio is gay a republican too?

With one minor change, the answer is now within the question. Presto change-o!

Nice work on the headline. It's been a while since a Charlie Crist reference, so it's got both nostalgia, innuendo, and puns all at the same time.
