Next is 3 people. I don't want to be around this guy when the count gets up to, say, 500 people. Then airliners be falling out of the sky on to buses getting hit by trains that derailed into grade schools. |

So if you see this guy on the street should it bring you comfort that he's nearby or should you run in fear that something awful is about to happen to you? |

Uh I'm... going to have to walk to the parking garage today. There will be cars driving beside and across me. So uh... Mr St Petersburg Batman... you happen to be walking that way this afternoon? |

They need to investigate Rescue Randy here. I bet he wrecked that car, AND crashed that airplane on purpose. I bet he also sets dumpster fires and calls 911 just to get a thrill out of it. |

But in my reality he was a volunteer firefighter so he got to put the fire out as well. |

... And of what historically disfavored "out-group" was this so-called "good Samaritan" a member? The idea behind the term "good Samaritan" (as opposed to "good person," "good bystander," or whatever) is that the person's benevolent actions defy and thereby disprove the stereotype, especially when members of a positively viewed "in-group" have declined the opportunity to take those actions. Although this is a metaphor/allusion fail for both submitter and original article and headline writer(s), perhaps they can take some consolation in the fact that with respect to this reference, they have lots of company. |

I cheated Death once. He gave me $20, and I gave him back change for a $5 bill. He totally didn't notice. |

Humanity. By and large, we're assholes. If two people of the same race, religion, political party, and hell - even family - helped each other in a dramatic way these days, I'd say it was worth noting. |

I may have already shared this tidbit, but alas, I'll share it again: I made a movie called The Good Samaritan once back in the mid-nineties (90s). It was awesome. Small run. Heh. ;) |

Good Samaritan? Do you know what a Good Samaritan is? Obviously you don't. When Jesus said a good Samaritan was better than a wealthy Jew, he wasn't commenting on racial issues, but racial issues were involved. Samaritans were considered half-breeds, and were of the lowest social caste aside from Pariah, the casteless. A wealthy Jew was considered a respectable man in the eyes of society. So if you want this comment put in *proper* context, the context would be "It is better to be a goodly Negro who helps his brothers than a Northern Tycoon or a Southern Plantation owner." It is not just about the act of compassion, Jesus was saying that the lowest of the low, the most hated, mistreated people in a society, if they did selfless good deeds, not out of self interest but out of compassion, were greater than anyone else. And there is too much phony charity and philanthropy and such. People don't do good things to help people they meet day to day, they give money to important charities so they can be seen giving to important charities. Thus the true heroes are those that risk their lives to save strangers, or give of themselves freely and without expectation of return, to help those in need, directly, person to person. Of course there are exceptions; Contributing to medical research and disabled veterans is always good in my book. But if you want to help the poor, take time out of your schedule, and help them out yourself. |
