Exactly. Nirvana's on there for some reason, but not Queen. What the hell.

Paperbag Writer by Radiohead. Not the best, but seedy and weird.

Live With Me, Rolling Stones. Yeah, the audio sucks. Pffft. Live versions tend to be guitar heavy, and I couldn't find a video of the studio version that sounded good.

Rush- pick a song. YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Headlong Flight. All deserve consideration.
Queensrÿche- Jet City Woman
Primus- My Name Is Mud
Alice in Chains- Would?, and Heaven Beside You
Metallica- pick a song with Cliff. i'd go with For Whom The Bell Tolls, personally.
Megadeth- Peace Sells

And thats just off the top of my head.

SilentStrider: Headlong Flight

Clockwork Angels has some insane bass on it, but nothing that really qualifies as a simple pass line. I haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out.

Not rock, but listen worthy

Everybody Dance (intro) - Chic. Bass by Bernard Edwards
Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) - Sly and the Family Stone
Bernadette The Four Tops. Bass by Carol Kaye

That's a little disconcerting. I switch b, p, and d like that when writing a lot but almost never when typing.

Sober by Tool. Their first bass player, Paul D'Amor contributed some wicked chops to their first couple records.

i've listened beginning to end a a couple times so far. Biggest thing I've noticed is that there's a ferocity to their playing that I don't think I've ever heard before. I really like what the producer is bringing out in them.

IMO, best songs: Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, The Wreckers, The Garden. Hmm, those titles sound uninventive that way.

I also realized listening a few times it's a steampunk rewrite of 2112.

it shares some themes with 2112, but I wouldn't call it a re-write. The protagonist in this case has an entirely different fate.

And I dare anyone to say they don't get out their air bass for this:

The cracks between the paving stones
Look like rivers of flowing veins.
Strange people who know me
Peeping from behind every window pane.

The girl I used to love
Lives in this yellow house.
Yesterday she passed me by,
She doesn't want to know me now.

/Come on, I dare ya!

Not hipster enough.

/If it was good enough for Vanilla Ice to blatantly steal, it's good enough to be one of the greatest basslines in music history.

Especially considering that was a ripoff of Killing Joke.

Oh, and list fails w/o Claypool

I have faith in the folks who posted "The Real Me," by Big Johnnie Twinkle, Thunderfingers, The Ox etc...

I was going to post that earlier but thought "fark it," this list sucks anyway.

Good on those who recognize true greatness.

I closed the article up after the first sentence.

"Ah, the bassist: the member of the band that no one ever wants to interview (unless it's Flea)."

Or Paul McCartney.
Or Geddy Lee.

And that's off the top of my head.

This is what passes for NME writing these days?

That list completely farking sucks, hands down.

Where the fark is making plans for Nigel and Senses Working Over time by XTC? How about Paperback Writer? How about Sweet Emotion?

How about The Police, just about any song from the first two albums kicks the crap out of most of the songs on the list.

How about Jeremy?

shiat, most of the songs on just about any Blur album are better: that dude is an underrated bass player.

A picture of Flea, but no songs by him?

That list sucks so hard, holy farking shiat. Anna Conrad, you give new meaning to the word LIST FAIL

Sting used to get f*ckloads of interviews... more than the other members of The Police ever did.

No one interviewing bass players.... durrr!
