| bighairyguy Blood & Roses, that is all. |
| RexTalionis What, no Under Pressure? |
| The English Major RexTalionis: What, no Under Pressure? Exactly. Nirvana's on there for some reason, but not Queen. What the hell. |
| MaudlinMutantMollusk I'm A Man - Chicago |
| FlashHarry pretenders - my city was gone. |

10 Daft Punk - 'Around The World' Aaaand I'm done with this fail. |
| Godscrack |
| Secret Agent X23 Live With Me, Rolling Stones. Yeah, the audio sucks. Pffft. Live versions tend to be guitar heavy, and I couldn't find a video of the studio version that sounded good. |
| bighairyguy |
| MaudlinMutantMollusk Just A Singer (in a rock & roll band) - Moody Blues |
| SilentStrider Rush- pick a song. YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Headlong Flight. All deserve consideration. Queensrÿche- Jet City Woman Primus- My Name Is Mud Alice in Chains- Would?, and Heaven Beside You Metallica- pick a song with Cliff. i'd go with For Whom The Bell Tolls, personally. Megadeth- Peace Sells And thats just off the top of my head. |

| John Paul Jones

SilentStrider: Headlong Flight Clockwork Angels has some insane bass on it, but nothing that really qualifies as a simple pass line. I haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out. |
| Godscrack Not rock, but listen worthy Everybody Dance (intro) - Chic. Bass by Bernard Edwards Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) - Sly and the Family Stone Bernadette The Four Tops. Bass by Carol Kaye |

GAT_00: SilentStrider: Headlong Flight Clockwork Angels has some insane bass on it, but nothing that really qualifies as a simple BASS line. I haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out. That's a little disconcerting. I switch b, p, and d like that when writing a lot but almost never when typing. |
| AdolfOliverPanties Meh. It's the NME. They have proven time and again they don't know shiat about music. |
| ThrnPhl No Squarepusher!? |
| Godscrack Sober by Tool. Their first bass player, Paul D'Amor contributed some wicked chops to their first couple records. |
| SilentStrider GAT_00: SilentStrider: Headlong Flight Clockwork Angels has some insane bass on it, but nothing that really qualifies as a simple pass line. I haven't stopped listening to the album since it came out. i've listened beginning to end a a couple times so far. Biggest thing I've noticed is that there's a ferocity to their playing that I don't think I've ever heard before. I really like what the producer is bringing out in them. |
| Godscrack bighairyguy: Godscrack: Valley Girl - Frank Zappa I forgot about that one! Feel Good, Inc. it awesome too. Ya I likes me some Gorillaz |

Biggest thing I've noticed is that there's a ferocity to their playing that I don't think I've ever heard before. I really like what the producer is bringing out in them. IMO, best songs: Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, The Wreckers, The Garden. Hmm, those titles sound uninventive that way. I also realized listening a few times it's a steampunk rewrite of 2112. |
| SilentStrider GAT_00: I also realized listening a few times it's a steampunk rewrite of 2112. it shares some themes with 2112, but I wouldn't call it a re-write. The protagonist in this case has an entirely different fate. |
| FlashHarry Secret Agent X23: Live With Me, Rolling Stones. Yeah, the audio sucks. Pffft. Live versions tend to be guitar heavy, and I couldn't find a video of the studio version that sounded good. good 'un! |
| bighairyguy And I dare anyone to say they don't get out their air bass for this: The cracks between the paving stones Look like rivers of flowing veins. Strange people who know me Peeping from behind every window pane. The girl I used to love Lives in this yellow house. Yesterday she passed me by, She doesn't want to know me now. /Come on, I dare ya! |
| SilentStrider bighairyguy: And I dare anyone to say they don't get out their air bass for this: I had to google it to find out the song, but after checking it out on youtube, I must find myself in agreement. |
Red Shirt Blues ![]() Always thought the theme had a killer bassline. |
| Earguy I was thinking more along the lines of The Ox doing The Real Me or Won't Ge Fooled Again. |
| FirstNationalBastard RexTalionis: What, no Under Pressure? Not hipster enough. /If it was good enough for Vanilla Ice to blatantly steal, it's good enough to be one of the greatest basslines in music history. |
| gilgigamesh |
| jmonty Radar Love - Golden Earing Roundabout - Yes Back in the Saddle - Aerosmith One of These Nights - Eagles Something - Beatles The Real Me - The Who (seconded Earguy) Sunshine of Your Love - Cream Slowride - Foghat Hey You - Pink Floyd Driven to Tears - The Police |
| mactobain The English Major: Nirvana's on there for some reason, but not Queen. What the hell. Especially considering that was a ripoff of Killing Joke. Oh, and list fails w/o Claypool |
| AdolfOliverPanties I have faith in the folks who posted "The Real Me," by Big Johnnie Twinkle, Thunderfingers, The Ox etc... I was going to post that earlier but thought "fark it," this list sucks anyway. Good on those who recognize true greatness. |
| WhyteRaven74
Any list without Good Times by Chic fails right off the bat. |
| WhyteRaven74
Also just to make sure it gets some justified love, Jethro Tull's Living in the Past |
| JesterJoker55
Call of Cthulu was pretty badass too. |
| MensRea
No "Peace Sells"? /fail |

I'm not one of those "whar Rush whar" posters, but even though I like those bands I thought that was a lame list. |

I closed the article up after the first sentence. "Ah, the bassist: the member of the band that no one ever wants to interview (unless it's Flea)." Or Paul McCartney. Or Geddy Lee. And that's off the top of my head. This is what passes for NME writing these days? |

Dazed and Confused? |
| jj325 bighairyguy: And I dare anyone to say they don't get out their air bass for this: The Ox! /Also the best French Horn player in rock and roll |
| Bhasayate
That list completely farking sucks, hands down. Where the fark is making plans for Nigel and Senses Working Over time by XTC? How about Paperback Writer? How about Sweet Emotion? How about The Police, just about any song from the first two albums kicks the crap out of most of the songs on the list. How about Jeremy? shiat, most of the songs on just about any Blur album are better: that dude is an underrated bass player. A picture of Flea, but no songs by him? That list sucks so hard, holy farking shiat. Anna Conrad, you give new meaning to the word LIST FAIL |

And that's off the top of my head. This is what passes for NME writing these days? Sting used to get f*ckloads of interviews... more than the other members of The Police ever did. No one interviewing bass players.... durrr! |

No theme song from Barney Miller? No Gratitude by the Beastie Boys? No Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin? Under Pressure, Queen? Worm Mountain, the Flaming Lips? Once In A Lifetime, Talking Heads? No ANYTHING from Primus?!?!? Fark off. |
