Your point has merit in any part of the country without taco trucks. Really, it does. Taco Bell makes very tasty food and it's comparatively cheap. There are innumerable Mexican restaurants around here and very few of them can match the taste of lowly Taco Bell and they all cost more. Only in a proper taco truck can the price/performance ratio of Taco Bell be exceeded. I wonder what causes some people to have food allergies? Not additives for sure.

It's my understanding that allergies are usually caused by certain proteins interacting improperly with the immune system. Having MORE ingredients isn't going to affect an allergic reaction.
That's why you see people with hay, milk, peanut, strawberry, etc allergies. Those are simple things w/ only 1 ingredient.
You never hear "oh lets go to DelTaco instead, I'm allergic to Taco Bell's burritos".

does the job for 1/2 the price?

Say what you want about it being unhealthy, junk food, or not authentic-- it was still one of the best tacos I have ever eaten (and yes I have had real tacos several times). I ordered only one and wished for at least two more. You have take Taco Bell for what is -- Tex-Mex Fast Food. It doesn't claim to be authentic. If I want the real taco experience I go straight to my local Mexican taco trucks and order in Spanish. Sometimes I think it is easier for people to criticize rather than enjoy the experience.
BTW- About freaking time they got together with Doritos and made these tacos. Brilliant move for both companies in my opinion.

Experienced tacos at the Texas State Fair last year. My Michigan palate has not been the same since. In a good way. Tacos at a decent local tex-mex joint give me a sad now (though I'd still order their seafood quesadilla.) Taco Hell tacos have, in turn, become unimaginable.

Not the quesadillas, though. Can't really go wrong with those.

Generally speaking I don't eat meat unless I knew said meat while it was alive.

Every year, I go pick out a cow, lamb, and pig over at a farm nearby. I specify I want mine fed grass only and I get updates about once a month on how they are progressing sort of like if I had adopted it...except that instead of adopting it, I'm gonna eat it. Why do I ask for the updates you ask? Because then I can track its growth rate to ensure the farmer is not bulking it up on corn 2-3 months before slaughter.

When its time to do the deed I go over there and watch so I can verify hanging weight. Then I take it over to a butcher and get the whole thing cut to order.

You know what makes a good farking taco? Paper shaved roundeye steak. Marinate it overnight in a puree of salt, pepper, sugar, jalepeno, habenero, garlic, cilantro, cumin, oregano and olive oil.

Throw it on the grill. Slap it in either some some nice homemade tortas or if you dig the gluten, grilled flatbread. Serve with a heavily limed fresh salsa and a few crumbles of Penella.

i know most of you saying these things are either trolls or stupid. you're talking shiat about $1 - $2 fast food tacos/burritos. they're very tasty, inexpensive, quick, and portable. it's not sit-down restaurant fare.

it's not advertised as authentic anything, either, so why bother even comparing? if you really want to rag on such things, start another olive garden thread. they DO advertise as authentic tuscan cuisine, charge $10 - $20 a plate, yet taste about the same as a $3 frozen entree and add in some good bread & salad. you can most definitely find better much closer to authentic freshly made italian food in my area for cheaper!

The local taco truck in our town (called Tacos Mexico) did enough business to build a building and start a real restaurant. They still have the truck sitting outside, and they do events with it from time to time. Steak tacos for a buck. Best in town, and they are three blocks from my house.

I can pick up tacos at my local beaner market for $1.40 each, the corn tortillas are grilled right in front of me, and they're packed with way more actual meat than Taco Bell's tacos. You can get your choice of about 12-15 different fillings at any given time, like barbacoa, desebrada, bistec, carnitas, etc. Oh, and their fresh salsa verde is AWESOME.

:shrug: To each his own, sure, but when it comes to a choice between crappy fast food tacos and the real thing for a negligible difference in price? Who wouldn't choose the real thing?

i see plenty of super skinny people, and super in-shape people, pigging out at tb. the simple act of eating any particular type of food at any particular restaurant does not make someone fat.

i AM fat, and while a good amount of it IS from such places, it's not their fault...it's mine for eating far too much of it while not exercising. i've lost about 40 lb over the last 9 months and have not cut out any foods/restaurants that i was already frequenting...i got smaller portions and increased my exercise.

truth...if you made tacos from scratch at home that are similar in texture/taste to tb, you probably have closer to 5-10% added stuff. although for cheap fast food it's still not shocking

really tasty cheap = $0.99 wendy's jr deluxe cheeseburger. it's a small burger patty, but as far as i can tell from the taste/texture it's all beef, no filler...perhaps a little seasoning. most of the cheap burgers like that you can tell are made with some oats or soy in it

Last night I had a hankering for some Mexican (style) food. Bought 2lbs of ground chuck. Seasoned with Adobo, ground cumin, five crushed minced cloves of fresh garlic, pepper, chili powder, onion powder and salt. Then I took one can of cream of chicken soup (not the fat free kind) and mixed it up with sharp cheddar and pepper jack cheese and melted it all together with a can of green chilies. Fried up some flour tortillas, slapped on some re-fried beans, meat, cheese sauce, sour cream and some hot sauce. Yucking fummy!!!! Can't wait to get home from work and have left-overs.

Whatever happened to that 35% beef claim? I can't find any evidence that it's false other than Taco Bell themselves bombing the country with ad campaigns claiming it was 88%. I'm sure they've changed the percentage by now, but was there any truth to the original 35% claim?
