xanadian: SilentStrider: Good, I hope he recovers and lives a long healthy life.

FTFA: After a number of measures to preserve his pulmonary valve, doctors replaced it last week with a porcine valve that should last 10 to 15 years, according to the website of the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

"We're hopeful that this will be -- quite possibly -- the last major surgery that Max will need," said Michael Silka, co-director of The Heart Institute at the hospital.

I guess we'll see.

That "10 to 15 years" and "last major surgery" caught my attention too. Maybe they expect to spike his OJ with New Valve components when this one wears out in a decade or so.

/Hmmm... starting my list of body parts I want to replace w/o major surgery.

That caught my attention right away. It'll last fifteen years but it's your last major surgery... you do the math.

I think he just meant that in 10 or 15 years they'll be able to do this type of valve replacement using minimally invasive surgery. It can already be done for other heart valves, and the technology is improving astronomically. Hell, in 15 years they might even just be injecting stem cells for this kind of thing.

MoronLessOff: Nightenstaff: Salmon: He has the same nickname as my boss

You call your penis "Tiny Darth"?

Because after he "fights", he can't feel his hand anymore.

You know, root beer hurts when you inhale it, you bastards.

Magnificent bastards.

Perducci: chopit: The Irresponsible Captain: Hopefully in 10 to 15 years we have some better technology, maybe be able to grow a replacement from stem cells and implant it with scopes.

We're close already. I have a friend whose shoulder is being rebuilt with stem cells. She blew it out playing lacrosse in college, and the professional skydiving put her in constant pain. 2 rounds of stem cells and she's got about 90% of the tissue and strength back, and she's almost pain-free.

But killing babbies in the process!11!!1!

No, the stem cells are made from her bone marrow. The idiotic religious people can just suck it. Behold the power of modern medicine, you twats.

What sets the fundies off is the "embryonic stem cell" thing IIRC
Stem cells made from the patient and/or those donated are perfectly fine to them

/I may be talking out of my ass here so YMMV
