His name is Rivera.

And for what it's worth, the 14 inning game could have been avoided (and Andy's gem preserved) if he was available.

WIth Mariano in the bullpen, it's a completely different look and strategy.

Not that anyone should give a f*ck, but to the guy in my league that picked up Robertson before I could once I lost Rivera on my fantasy team, leaving me to pick up Soriano instead mere minutes later....thanks dude!

How odd that the Yankees are 10-0 against the NL East - I have some friends who insisted a few weeks ago that it was the best division in baseball.

You probably know my allegiance is with the Sawks, but even I had to appreciate Andy Pettitte telling Harper to get off his lawn multiple times.

How odd that all of those teams had winning records. 10-0 against Minnesota, Seattle and Pittsburgh (for example) seems plausible - this has been unreal.

It was the baseball equivalent of the bigger kid pressing his hand against the smaller kid's forehead to keep him back. All Harper could do was flail his arms and look pathetic.

Bryce Harper was still in Pull-Ups when Andy Pettitte threw his first pitch for the Yankees.

And if the umpire had made the correct call on Tyler Moore at the plate, the Nats would have won in 9.

Whole lot of ifs.
Cory Wade likely doesn't pitch that inning if Mariano was available in the 9th.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. In that close of a game with Rivera available, Wade is not in that situation.

Here's the problem with that theory. Cory Wade isn't your closer. If Soriano wasn't in the game at that point, Rivera wouldn't be either.

Wade was in the Game because Robinson was hurt, not Soriano. Soriano doesn't pitch the 8th.

Huh? Soriano is the closer because Rivera is hurt. If Rivera were not hurt, Soriano would not be the closer. Wade would not have been in the game because Soriano would have pitched the 8th and Rivera would have pitched the 9th.

My whole point was that had Rivera been available, nothing says the Nats wouldn't have still tied the game. And had the ump called Moore safe, we also don't know that the Yanks wouldn't have come back in the 9th. Clippard still would have pitched, but maybe he would have done it differently with a one-run lead. We just don't know. All of these "ifs" are just that. So we have no way of knowing that had Rivera been available, the game wouldn't have gone 14.

It's Robertson. He became the closer when Rivera went down, then got hurt himself, which turned Soriano into the closer.

If Rivera hadn't hurt himself, Robertson would have been the 8th inning guy. If only Robertson had been hurt, Soriano would have been moved into that role, instead of the closer's role. In either case, Wade wouldn't be pitching the 8th.

Get it, or are you going to keep being a moron?

Actually, you have that backwards, Robertson came in, sucked, got demoted then went on the DL when he got hurt in the 8th in the next game Link. Soriano got signed last year to pitch the 8th, sucked, they moved Robertson up to pitch there. Soriano never pitches in the 8th. Believe me, I remeber those two days of suck because I picked him up for my fantasy team.

Get it or do you think you can keep it up until that chicken cums?

\Sorry, I didn't remember the name of the least clutch pitcher in baseball.

He was never demoted, you're completely full of shiat. I'm not really sure what the intended purpose of the linked box score is, all it shows is that Robertson was pitching the 9th inning when he got hurt.

"Soriano never pitches the 8th" - yeah, except for the night Robertson recorded his Boobies-Mariano save opportunity (May 8th) as well as the following night when Robertson blew the save.

Robertson was not available the following night because of the number of pitches he'd thrown in back-to-back games, so Soriano got the 9th inning the next night.

To reiterate, Soriano was clearly the 8th inning guy until Robertson's injury. I implore you to find one single thing to suggest Robertson's one blown save got him demoted. It's utter nonsense with absolutely no basis in reality. Have a nice evening.

THIS. You can search high and low for any quote that Robertson got demoted after he got shelled that one game, and you won't find it. Robertson was gassed, then injured. Simple as that.

I don't quite get what you're trying to say, scandalrag. If you have Mo and Soriano but no Robertson, how again does that translate into "no Soriano in the 8th?" Girardi does some crazy things sometimes, but I highly doubt he'd have Soriano in the 7th, Logan/Wade in the 8th, and Mo in the 9th.

The least clutch pitcher in baseball? You mean the guy people regularly called a "true fireman" because of all the RISP he'd strand in crucial situations (including a couple of bases-loaded jams in the playoffs)?

Or the guy who went 1.2 innings with 4H 4ER 4BB, loaded the bases in both save situations and blew one. That 4.79 WHIP screams grace under pressure. Some guys don't handle closing well. He's exhibit B. Matt Thorton is exhibit A.

So the fact they brought him in in the 8th of a game the Yankees were losing the day after Soriano got his save and two days after he really shiat the bed, that was because the binder says never give the closer more than one day's rest? No point in trying to save him in case you come back, or better give him more rest since he threw 44 pitches, most of them with RISP, in less than 2 innings. Keep telling yourself he wasn't demoted. Doesn't make it so.

\I think they got him hurt bringing him back too soon in the May 11th game. No point in bringing him in down 4.

Yeah, 2 games surely overcomes almost 2.5 years of putting out dozens of legitimate fires, right?

Sure, he might've had some nerves his first opportunity. I thought at the time it was a mistake to bring him in the next day, because he had thrown a lot of pitches in his first opportunity. Girardi's usually better about monitoring that.

Where the heck are you getting your "facts?" He came into the May 11 game in the ninth inning, and after Logan had allowed a runner on base in a 6-2 ballgame. It wasn't a save opportunity, but with a righty announced as the pinch hitter and another righty on deck, it made sense for Girardi to (A) get the game over with by bringing in your best righty reliever (something he and Torre were known for doing with Mo anyway, even in non-save situations); and (B) get his confidence back up. Regardless, there is absolutely no evidence that his appearance in May 11 was proof of a "demotion" to setup man.

I do agree with you that it might not have been the wisest choice to bring him in that day after throwing so many pitches (45) two and three days prior. I think Girardi was so anxious to get Robertson's confidence back up that he threw caution to the wind.

The farking idiot doesn't even know how to read a g-damn boxscore and ended up proving the exact opposite of what he was trying to prove. Robertson entered in the ninth with a runner on AND A LEAD. In fact if memory serves, he was warming up in the bottom of the 8th to enter a save situation in the 9th inning when the Yankees added on two insurance runs. When the Yanks scored those runs, Girardi went batter by batter with Logan, then brought Robertson in with one on and one out.

There was never any demotion, any suggestion otherwise are the ramblings of an utter buffoon. Of course scandalrag is a exactly the kind of buffoon who looks at a boxscore of a game the Yankees won 6-2 and tries to argue that Robertson entered when they were down 4 runs.

Scandalrag - you lose. Again.
