If the document is really 2 years old, it was probabaly early 'here is what we want to do' sort of things. We can see some aspects of Xbox Smartglass in this, as well as some kinect stuff. Specs may have changed, btu the overall direction is pretty much what's expected.

The AR thing is interesting, very google like. Also something of a sort at Sony, who has been doing AR since the eyetoy first hit. Dennou Coil style glasses would be neat though.

Aww, the headline made me think it would be some sort of official confirmation, but it's just the same story about the leaked documents that I've been reading about since Sunday.

Microsoft's next-generation entertainment console could change the future of gaming.

Basically no console will ever do this except by bringing in greater or diverse markets, but this is indirect. Games change the future of gaming, not the tech. Of course, once we get into residential holodeck territory, things will change, and tech helps games change the terrain by being more powerful and handling more (of course, few games do more than simply increase the...not quality but intensity I suppose...of graphics).

Buying a few rechargeable battery packs pretty much negates the need for wired controllers....at least it does in my household.

Ugh. I actually love being able to save my saved games to the "cloud" since I play on two consoles (making it easier than having to constantly shuffle a USB drive between them), but I still like the option of saving and loading offline.

I have a powerhouse gaming PC a 360 and a PS3 The only one I don't use much is the PS3. Unless it's an exclusive title or has really great extras on the PC I might as well be able to monitor my XBL friends list while I'm playing a game and see if anybody wants to play some game or even just hop into a party and chat while we play different games.

Also WTF is a 'jaggy' and adjust your damn TV if the color is 'washed out' because...

more polygons != better color.

Blu-Ray is old news at this point, the 3D fad is well on its way out again, and "based-gaming" likely means that you will need an always-on internet connection even to play single-player games, and likely won't be able to buy or sell your used games.

All I really want for the next round is locked 1080P gaming 4xAA @ 60FPS.

Both MS/Sony took a massive rendering hit trying to push out HD graphics this gen, especially in FPS. Hell, the 3 billion dollar franchise COD run 60FPS, but at sub HD GFX. Get things running nice and smooth at 60 FPS and 1080P and let the Dev's figure out the rest to work within that limit.

No jaggies or washed out colors on a 133" screen at 1080P res. Are you using an HDMI cable? Is your TV set up correctly?

Came to post this. Might as well add this to the list: You won't be allowed to play Madden 12 once Madden 13 is out. Now you'll be forced into paying $60+ a year for what amounts a subscription to Madden... and you think the game doesn't change from year to year now.

The article/leak is also 2 years old, so there's no telling what they've changed. Blu-Ray was still up and up 2 years ago, and so was 3D (I always thought it was gimmicky).

The only thing that will differentiate the next Xbox from the old is an updated Kinect and mandatory Gold membership* (beside the obligatory spec-bump, naturally).

*Oh, you can avoid getting Gold, but enjoy your game-interrupting ads! They'll take the place of traditional load screens.

Between my PC, 360, PS3 and Wii, I'd say I use the PC most of all for everything, the 360 for gaming occasionally (it's not good for anything else), the PS3 for movies (see: 360), and the Wii for experiments in dust striation. Several years ago it would have been a different story: PC for internet (my hardware was out of date), Wii for "game night", 360 for single-player hardcore titles, PS3 for one or two games and movie rentals.

I actually play games on my old Genesis more than my Wii. Worst. Console. Ever.

Wow that is some news. I never would have guessed that the next xBox would accept blueray, be in 1080p and would accept 3d. Never, oh never would I have imagined that microsoft would reuse the Kenect feature on the next console. Next ground breaking leak will be that they have a Halo, a Forenza, and a Gears of War planed.

Oh good, we haven't had a console flame war in a long time, even though ps3 and 360 both feature technology that's about a decade old at this point.

Apparently "changing the future of gaming" means having all the same features as a PS3, plus a Kinect that works a little better.

Jesus Christ this, I really wish they'd give up on the whole kinect thing, Just make it backward compatible to the 360 and give me blueray and program games to use the full storage capacity of that medium.

Then, electronics and computer companies made video game hardware, with the bonus of having electronics functionality, i.e. "the ability to play DVDs". A few years ago I didn't think I'd be at the mercy of an internet connection to play Diablo 3. Guess what, they went that direction. And guess what, people bought that game in record numbers. The masses even defend online only. "Who doesn't have internet?"

I don't think it would be too large a stretch to one day see this model, especially if people can't exhibit self control in their purchases. It seems like when it comes to AAA titles consumers will blindly buy with not so much as a second thought as to the precedent they are setting. They want that game SOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAD. Some dev tests the waters with online only single player, gets their cash, then all adopt. Some dev tests the waters with the yearly game renting/subscriptions where last year's game is taken off the server, gets their cash. then all adopt. "Who doesn't buy the new version of Madden each year anyway." I can hear it already.

It's all about greed and if people don't vote with their dollars, or abstain from voting as is the case, then you can bet the game devs/publishers will try to squeeze every penny they can out of us.

I think they already said no to BC, but i'm not certain. BC is actually kinda of hard unless you use the same architecture each time, iirc, due to the difficulties of emulating modern tech. You end up having to include the old hardware, adding costs. I suspect Sony will lack it next go around as well for that reason.

Which dovetails into the issue of internet providers "capping" the amount of data you can download in any given month. "I'm sorry, you can't play Halo 4 any more this month, you've exceeded your download cap."
