I'm really torn about the Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter movie. On the one hand, it's rated R, which it should be as the book was extremely gory. On the other hand, the trailers/previews make it looke like typical action crap with BAYSPLOSIONS!

On the third hand, I really loved the book. One of the best books to blend historical fact with fantasy. I finally got my girlfriend to start reading it (she thought it would suck) and she hasn't put it down since.

I will probably see it just to see what parts they inevitably screw up.

The trailer I saw last week actually sold me on being interested. Before that I thought the whole idea was stupid.

I really dig Bekmambetiv's outlandish style. Nightwatch,Daywatch,9 and Wanted were fantastic,and I expect AH:VH to be just as good.

When you get right down to it, there was very little civility involved.

The book was a lot of fun. I am not hopeful that it will do it justice, but then again, if you expect nothing you can't be disappointed.

This movie...look, it sounds just retarded. Ridiculously retarded. Like "Homer and Peter Griffin got together and wrote a movie but didn't write it together" retarded. And then Opie, the Monkey in Chris's Closet, and the Cat Lady from the Simpsons edited it to add 70% more zazz.

I love vampire movies, but this is just too much.

HBO's First Look on this movie did not do it any favors. It looks pretty bad.

The guy added in an additional zero, but I don't see anything particularly pro-Confederate in TFA. It is common practice nowadays to lay the blame for all deaths related to any given war on the head of the victor's government at the time the war began. It is unlikely that people of Lincoln time -North or South- would have seen things in quite the same way, but TFA's author is not from that time.

Hmm. I'm torn. I loved the Nightwatch books, though I was meh on the movies. If AL:VH is getting the same treatment, that might be one that I get on DVD. There's a lot of other movies I want to see this summer too, which is unusual for me.

This is almost an original idea, so don't shiat on it too badly.

I sorta want to see The Adventures of Huck Finn and Robot Jim.

There are only so many plots you can bring to the masses before you get labeled "Art House" and relegated to a single showing at Sundance if you're lucky.

Saw it last night - funny as hell, perhaps unintentionally. The bloodshed was all Super-Cheap CGI, and the guy who played Stonewall Jackson couldn't have gotten a part as an extra in community theater. Lincoln giving little kid Teddy Roosevelt a big stick was pretty idiotic/great.

Well worth seeing, if you enjoy bad cult films.

Agreed. I picked up the book at the airport on a whim and couldn't put it down once I started. It was really well done. I don't hold out much hope for the movie, either. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised but I can't recall the last time I thought 'wow, that movie was so much better than the book.'

The book is great, one of my favorites. I bought it as a coffee table book (who doesn't love the back of the jacket), but ended up reading it in about 3 days. Why is your historian friend pissed off? The author actually did an excellent job of blending the historical facts about his life/events that occurred with fantasy.

Agreed. As a computer programmer/video editor I learned to hold my tongue when they do goofy shiat with computers or use the word "enhance" because no one wants to hear it. Still, people get paid lots of money to write screenplays, even shiatty ones so while I can suspend disbelief with the computer shiat if it advances the plot, simple historical facts should be somewhat accurate. They can shoehorn the vampire hunting in between an accurate account of his life.

I love history, and if there were any money in it, would have completed my BA in history. I also love it when someone ties fantasy into the historic facts. There is only one movie that has ever pissed me off doing this, and that was "Almost Heros" with Chris Farley and Mathew Perry. I still get a rage on over that abortion.

I really want to see this movie. Here's the thing... Everybody in the world is SO SICK of remakes, reboots, redos, Rethinks, prequels, sequels.... And here someone has made a movie of a ::gasp:: ORIGINAL IDEA!! and yet, so many people are going, ew, that looks stupid... Ok. maybe it's ridiculous, over the top, unrealisitic, whatever. But you know what? If it bombs, we'll just be telling Hollywood that it's ok to make recycled shiat, and not ok to make something original and new. And that's sad.
