Recent deaths... Dana Plato.... quick GIS shows she died May 8, 1999.

Bit of a stretch to call that recent?

I remember a couple years ago this douchebag at my school was saying it was bullshiat that people could get medical marijauna so easily, like his brother who he admitted had "some injuries from fighting in Iraq", which I guess he didn't think merited a pot prescription. Because I am also a douchebag, I interjected on this convo I was eavesdropping on and pointed out that pot was a lot safer than the painkillers that he would get otherwise. He didn't have a comeback. God that guy was a douchebag.

People believe they cannot tolerate moderate pain, and deserve narcotic pain killers for the rest of their lives bc they hurt their back 25 years ago. News at 11.

Opiates are a pretty farked up drug. I think they should make everyone who gets an opiate script watch someone going through withdrawals. They might feel really good to abuse, but you sure shiat don't want to make a habit out of those things.

How is that it's 2012 and we haven't invented a pain-killer that isn't an opiate or gets a person high/addicted . We have cracked the human genome, you'd think it'd be possible.

And

We totally should! There are plenty of chiropractors, naturopaths, and folk healers/witch doctors ready to cure your ails for a price!

/that's not a joke, sadly.
//there is a huge movement right now among these "providers" to gain the same prescribing and treatment privileges as MDs and DOs.

With people driving less in far safer cars... ones signed to save your ass even if you don't wear a seatbelt, something had to overtake traffic fatalities. We have no culture built up around recreational pill use the way we do with alcohol. We have enough problems with booze after millennia of drinking, but pills are hyper concentrated with just one designed to dramatically affect your body at a time.

People slip up, take the wrong combo in a fit of self-medication when no one's home, and bam that's all she wrote.

Some people take painkillers for everything. i pride myself on taking as few as possible, although due to have an extremely painful inflamed rib cartiledge, I've had a couple ibuprofen today. It's only the third time this decade I've been in enough pain to take pills.I had to go out and buy this stuff, because i do not keep painkillers. The first bottle I got was 400 mg/pill but you can only take 3 a day. I then went and got a 200mg/pill because I'd rather use the lowest does possible, and this gives me the options of spreading the pills out in lower doses once the earlier one wears off. I've been resting since noon, so I doubt I'll need more unless if when i sleep laying down becomes overly painful.

shiat, pop me a couple tylenol 3 and a couple of beers and I'll be ready to rock and roll all night.

without the prolonged pain from that car wreck I should add.

I should go get a script but I'd blow them all having fun.

I don't like the fact that any time I've needed painkillers no doctor's will Rx them. So I have to lay there 3 days after surgery on Motrins all because a bunch of idiots abused the opiates.

That seems like a recipe for a horrible hangover to me. All the acetaminophen in tylenol 3 + the codeine + booze = bad liver nofun time. It would be fun at the time though.

Referring to Advil as a "painkiller" is a bit much. Our ancestors had willow bark to chew on, NSAID's have been around for awhile. Tolerating pain doesn't make you noble or manly, it just makes you feel pain. I'd equate it to struggling to see instead of getting glasses.

It's not the addicting part that's the real problem IMO, it's the whole opiates/current pain-killers causing increasing dependence, with decreasing effectiveness, which leads to stronger pain-killers, overdose, or an otherwise poor quality of life.
/I live in an area with a real pill problem

Profit alone can't explain it. There's lots of independent researchers out there who would have a huge scientific legacy with it's discovery. Not that I'd be overly surprised to find out Big Pharm was suppressing it, but that seems less likely.

Maybe this is ironic, but just the other day I dropped some Oxycontin, put on "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" & made my own soundtrack with a Fisher-Price xylophone.

Then I got really itchy & remorseful.

The only flaw in that statement is that Marijuana is, as documented in studies, HORRIBLE as a primary pain control agent in somatic pain, which is the majority of the causes for the use of pharmacological agents in pain control.
