| St_Francis_P Neither of the representatives agreed to give their names, but two protesters said they were getting paid to stand outside of the rally, though their wage is unclear: one said she was getting $7.25 per hour, while another man said they were being paid $17 per hour. Meanwhile, about 50 feet away, another protest had been organized by local Democrats in conjunction with the Obama campaign. A campaign official told BuzzFeed they had nothing to do with the other group - which he said he believed they had been sent by the labor-backed "Good Jobs Now" - and confirmed that they were being paid. This is all massively confusing. Why are they getting paid drastically different amounts? Confirmed who was being paid by whom? Between the "facts" of the case and the crappy writing I'm not sure what's going on. |

| propasaurus So, assuming there's any veracity to this story, I'm supposed to be outraged that my contributions to the campaign are being spent to hire people to support the campaign? |

Be Republicans, claim to be hired by the Obama campaign, add fuel to the fire by being as confusing about it as possible, and then claim that the Obama campaign hires protesters. I wouldn't be surprised if this is right from some Karl Rove playbook. |

| bdub77 I'm OK with this. Seems like a better use of money than robocalls. |

| MaudlinMutantMollusk So is there like a website where I can contribute? |

| timujin cman: cue letseehowlowthevotesgo.png /Where the hell are the Obamunists? 2 positive votes? Jesus you guys are slow tonight I always forget about link voting, thanks for the reminder. Not because I'm an "Obamunist", but because this article is incredibly poorly written. Buzzfeed is pretty much like Fark, except the people that write there use their own names. Linking to this is like basing a thread on a comment shiat out by "FlacoCabeza". |

Oh wow, they're paying people to protest Rmoney? And here I've been doing it for free this whole time. I wonder if I can apply for back pay... |

| I_Am_Weasel The Republicans would never do anything like this. |

it is fun to watch how desperate 0bama is to beat Romney. He has been campaigning for 3.5 years and all he's got is a 0.7% lead and a whole lot of lame like this. |

| Triumph What's really despicable are their hiring practices - they discriminate against midgets. |

| Somacandra FTFA: The protesters also made an appearance at Romney's rally in Frankenmuth earlier in the day. Frankenmuth is a tourist "heritage" town for German-Americans. My last waiter there was an African-American man who looked like Morgan Freeman and wore lederhosen with the stereotypical German/Austrian mountain yodel outift. When you go eat at any of the main places its a legendary buffet. My waiter asked me "Would you like a refill on your chicken?" with a straight face. end CSB |

Much better that money be spent on protesters than lawyers and lobbyists who write legislation to curtail voting rights of non-Real Americans™. |

| Somacandra St. Francis P: Between the "facts" of the case and the crappy writing I'm not sure what's going on. This is a glorified Livejournal post--not an actual news story. No one's on record as saying anything about what they're in charge of. You can't confirm that a group of people you aren't associated with are "getting paid." I'm not sure why I'm supposed to be outraged over this anyway, especially since Romney sends his actual team bus to honk and protest at Democratic rallies. He loves and encourages heckling. If this is even true, isn't this just a high compliment--to treat someone as a reflection of their own values? |
||
| LouDobbsAwaaaay Want to know where your Obama 2012 campaign contributions are going? I'd be more interested in knowing where anonymous millions in corporate campaign financing are going. |

So the allegedly paid protestors and sources are kept anonymous, while the people actually NAMED in the article either didn't say they were being paid by Obama, or actively denied it. |

"Well I was so foaming at the mouth for this candidate that I sat through traffic to be here but hey, there's some jerkoff with a sign that has a slogan on it I've seen a million times before! I've seen the light!". Because the only people anywhere near a Romney campaign stop are there to see it, as opposed to large numbers of people who might live or work in the area and might not even know that Romney is there. I've had lots of good, productive conversations with people at actions like this. So, um... I know what protesting these events accomplishes. More than nothing. But, hey, keep thinking people who are actually trying to do something useful are morons. |

I believe this a standard tactic. If you consult your "Rove's Rules" handbook, you'll see it on page 256, section 1152(k)(iv). |

$17 an hour as an actor on the street is a pretty good wage. People make less than that in manufacturing. |

It's fun to watch how desperate y0u are as y0u pretend that R0mney's sorry ass has a chance. Of course he has a chance. How much of a chance depends on whether Obama will fark it up or not. It's not a question of Romney beating Obama as much Obama losing to Romney. |

SN1987a goes boom: We're supposed to be outraged funds are going to oppose his main (and only real) opponent? You pay a "strategy firm" millions of dollars to savage your opponent with personal attacks in the press? That's just politics. You pay someone $7 an hour to protest your opponent on the street? Outrage. |

I missed the part that showed it was candidate campaign contributions that was used to pay for this. You know subby, candidate campaign contributions are not the only source of income used to fund activities that support a candidate. |

beta_plus: But don't call it astroturfing, you racist. Uhhh... even if they were hired plants, it still wouldn't be astroturfing; they're a couple of Romney protestors, not a movement. Are you really that dumb? |
