Which of those stunts that I just watched performed in the clip are now officially impossible?

Nice decade air off some stairs about 44 seconds in, don't see many people doing decade airs these days. And most of those tricks are stuff you could only do in video games 10 years ago. Corkscrew front flips and a double front flip, among others.

Spot on with the comparision to video games - some of the stuff here is just pure insanity. Not sure what they'd call the back flips where the rider flips and the bike stays level though. Or the (for lack of a better word) bar-stand flips.

Yeah I'm not sure what the name is for a few of the tricks, I know I've heard them for some, but can't remember them. Oh well, Summer X-Games isn't far off, get to hear them again there. Also there's a double decade air in the video that just blew my mind. I had to stop the video and go back a few seconds to make sure I really did just see what I thought I saw. It's something to watch, there's all this stuff going on and I don't have a PS2 controller in my hands.

I gotta say, the street riding was largely underwhelming. It was all clearly difficult stuff, but the decade down the stair set was the only real "WOW" moment. I was riding from the mid 90's to the mid aughts, and any one of the street clips would have fit into the bmx videos from my day.

It really is pretty mindblowing when you stop to consider the progress that both BMX and Skateboarding have had over the last few decades. It seriously is Matrix shiate these guys can do these days. Nearly superhuman.

That's made even more evident when you have even a cursory knowledge of what it takes to do some of the rudimentary stuff they do.

The graphics in these games are getting incredible but kids are still just mashing buttons most of the time...needs a physics engine

This looks like the motion capture from a video game. Wow.

They must be making crank arms really strong these days. How you can drop 10-15 feet in the air and not break the cranks or even strip the splines is remarkable in itself.

I always had a problem with calling the tricksy stuff BMX, since racing is bicycle moto cross, but whatever...call it what you will, these guys have skills.

For what its worth, my friends and I always referred to it as BMX Freestyle to anyone who didn't ride, specifically to make that distinction. Not sure how prevalent that was outside of our group though.

It makes you wonder where it will end up. These guys are doing such insane stunts these days that it's gotta get to a point soon where the only way to get a wow from the crowd will be to land the stunts on a large metal spike or something.

The rotation speeds they get from the flips though is just stupid. I remember when Dave Mirra did the first competition double backflip and was completely stunned by it. Look at the rotation speed he achieved though (and the actual forward speed he required to pull it off), and compare and contrast to TFA. The guys today are just in another league again.

There's the one guy who does a tailwhip and then a 360 on the same jump. Not a tailwhip 360 which people have been doing since the 90s, but each trick, separately on the same jump. I get how each one is done, but how you do one after the other on one jump just blows my mind. Also the double decade air, and a couple of the other big jumps. It's like are we sure about the whole law of gravitation thing?

Same here. What's funny is that as many different kinds of bicycles as I've seen in various bike shops, hell a local bike shop has a tandem velodrome bike in the window, I've never seen a trials bike in a store. I don't know if it's the presence of freestyle BMX that keeps Americans from getting into trials riding or what, but it's just one of those things. Yet in Europe trial riders are as numerous, at least, as freestyle BMX riders in the US. Not that there aren't some awesome European BMX riders.

There's a couple double backflips in the video where either the ramp looks too small or they look to be going way too slow to pull it off, yet they land it like they were doing a bus driver or something. And then the double back flip over a spine, I remember when there were maybe 5 guys who would do a single backflip over a spine. Now they're doing doubles. And then there's the double front flips. And all the variations, some of which look like video game moves.

And for those not familiar this is what a spine is, though they make them steeper and higher than this as well, course that just means where you land is a lot closer to where you took off from which makes it that much harder

He's doing some TV work, got a couple freestyle bmx shows he runs at a couple amusement parts and got his bike company and some other stuff going. What blows my mind is, I remember watching him when I was 15 or so and he owned the world, and he's only two years older than I am. And yeah that was uh, 22 years ago.

haha nice! That brings back memories, mag wheels, pink frames and all that good stuff. I'm impressed the guy still has the bike. I remember when a friend got a bike with a gyro/rotor on it, I was oh 11 or 12 at the time, and to have a bike where you could spin the handlebars all the way around was just awesome.

I live in Calgary where parts of RAD were filmed.

I gushed to him what it meant for me to finally meet him and how RAD had such an unimaginable impact on the community. Every single one of us boys had a BMX and wanted to trick out like Cru.

We watched the movie every weekend and knew every word.

It took 24 years, but I met my boyhood idol. One of life's goals achieved that day.

Ahh awesome. Glad to see the condor's still in the business. I just watched a video of him from 93, and he's got one characteristic about him which still makes him stand out even today - the farking air that bastard got. I'd love to see what sort of vertical he'd have on a basketball court.

I've never seen a racing BMX bike in a shop. When my daughter was riding, I ended up buying a Kuwahara from a guy who had resurrected the brand. A buddy of mine was a world-class racer in his younger days, knew the guy who had bought the name, and hooked me up with a nice expert size. Otherwise, I was buying online.

I've not seen a trials bike either. The place I buy my mountain bikes has just about every style of bike except trial and BMX racing. They helped me build a cruiser BMX from a frame I bought, but they simply ordered parts online too. FWIW, I don't think I've seen a tandem velodrome bike in there either....heh.

I have actually. Given I live in Chicago, that's kind of odd if you think about it. Also saw a few when I spent a couple years living in the burbs of Seattle.

The local bike shop with the tandem velodrome bike has had it in their window for ages. I suspect they ordered on account of it would look awesome in the window and who cares how long it takes to sell? Same store was the first place I ever saw a Kestrel composite frame bike back like 22 or 23 years ago. And that sat in the window for quite a while. Also remember they had a Canondale tandem with the big oversized tubes Canondale had a hit with back then, though that bike actually sold in a few months. As for myself, I'm thinking of acquiring a nice Haro or GT freestyle BMX bike. Yeah I'm kind of outside the target demographic as far as age, but I work from home, so don't need a bike for biking to work and I'm not much for riding for fitness, just want something to go have fun with. Even if perhaps at this point my body may not entirely agree after a while of riding.
