With so much content being uploaded to youtube every day, they couldn't possibly screen the neo-Nazi stuff. That comes from pretty much the same IP addresses and goes to the same channels, every time

If its not illegal, and not exhorting illegal acts, are they "required" to take such videos down? No matter how abhorrent I find what they're saying, that doesn't necessarily mean it has to come down, legally.

I wouldn't think so.. But we're in the busy-body age now so everyone has to make noise about irrelevant people practicing antiquated and irrelevant causes. I'm of the "change the channel crowd" so could care less what youtube has on it.

Fred Phelps has hate videos specifically targeting people like me (I don't believe in God, probably lots of other stuff). I just don't watch his videos. The end.

The bottom line is Youtube doesn't screen content, it realistically can't with so much being uploaded, so it relies on people to report content that is offensive and is a violation of its TOS. If it doesn't get reported, it stays up. If people want this stuff removed then they will have to monitor Youtube themselves and report it.

AFAIK, Youtube Terms of Service say something like "no offensive/hate shiat" in legalese. They're free to set up their own servers and serve the videos from there. Google doesn't have to provide them with a platform to say anything Google doesn't like.

Funny, I don't see the US government demanding that the videos be taken down, nor do I see anyone preventing these guys from hosting their stupidity by themselves.

Youtube:
- is not the internet. You can host your stuff yourself if you want to post stuff that violates Youtube's TOS.
- won't throw you in jail for putting up stuff that violates the TOS.

But hey, it's just like China.

They're not required to, but for some reason people dislike having Nazis on their site. Please think of the poor discriminated against Nazis. It's getting to the point that they can't even post videos asking for help finding their missing friend Kyle.

The point of the article is, "Google should monitor all of these uploads so that I don't have to."

"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." It's also the price of ensuring that your enemies go unheard.

And spare me the "soooooo much content" argument. You're telling me that Google couldn't write a search algorithm to sift content so they only had to review a tiny fraction? Like, oh "its being uploaded from here, or to this channel, or contains these keywords or a schwastika" etc.

Thats vull...bull...dangit...

Why should they? The current system seems to work well. If they changed it to your method it could easily accidentally block people who did nothing wrong and made a documentary.

YouTube probably gets more viewers by hosting that shiat than they lose from people concerned that they host that shiat. If that's true, they will not fix this as long as it is still true.

YouTube's content filter is inept. As are its DMCA notices. The site that allows hundreds of copyrighted clips to be uploaded unnoticed every hour is the same site that actually executed DMCA takedowns for Creation Science Evangelism (Kent and Eric Hovind's club) for videos the group released into the public domain.

Neo nazis, white supremacists, angry black muslims, anarchists, Eco-terrorists, and charlatans are like hydra - if you just cut off a head, they grow back somewhere else. That level of idiotic, violent mindset needs to be dealt with on an individual social level to keep it from spreading, but trying to remove their words speaks of an ineffective brand of tyranny and may lead to support for their cause..

And youtube may take something down, but it's not like these people are too stupid to just sign up with a different username.

This doen't have anything to do with hate speech laws, or laws of any kind. It has to do with YouTube's TOS. The problem is people who don't bother to inform YouTube of content that violates, but then biatch that it's there.
