| One in three Americans back Obama's health care reform. Numbers are even less for people who are members of the Supreme Court |

| vernonFL I bet that 1 out of 10 Americans have even the slightest clue what the bill actually does. I would be against it too if I thought that all it was was forced abortions and death panels and me paying for 50 year old illegal alien heroin addicts to get heart transplants ahead of needy children. |
||
| Mentat Once again, Americans like the individual aspects of the bill. They like no pre-existing conditions bans, they like having their kids on till 26, they like the exchanges. They just don't like all of those things bundled into one bill with mandates. |

What people don't like is the individual mandate. The rest of it polls pretty well. Of course, to people who grew up with tax cuts that pay for themselves, personal responsibility is a hard sell. |

| Marcus Aurelius Two out of three American couldn't tell you what Obamacare is if their lives depended on it. |

I don't think people even cared about the mandates until the Republicans began their "OMG FARTBONGO WILL SEND YOUR GRANDMA TO DIE IN PRISON IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE INSURANCE" crap. Mitt Romney was certaining ok with it in Massachusetts. |

Christ, is Fox News at it again? Oh, it's MSNBC.... never mind. |

| Demetrius Ask the same people about the individual pieces of the legislation, take out the word 'Obamacare', and people support those pieces. |

They just don't like all of those things bundled into one bill with mandates. Americans fail to understand that eliminating bans on pre-existing conditions isn't possible without the individual mandate. And Republicans are great at promising what isn't possible--just look at Romney's budget. |

vpb: What people don't like is the individual mandate. The rest of it polls pretty well. What's ironic is that the individual mandate is actually pretty toothless when it comes to penalties. If you never get insurance the worst that can happen is that the government withholds your tax return. |
||
| Grand_Moff_Joseph I don't want an insurance mandate either - single payer is much more effective. |

Lumpmoose: Americans fail to understand The most depressing part of this whole farking thing is that Americans fail to understand why they have the opinions they have. Their opinions have been completely manipulated by a GOP hellbent on ensuring that Obama accomplishes nothing during his presidency. The individual mandate and the whole health care bill was essentially a Republican idea. By having an individual mandate with no public option, It presents the ass of the American public to the private insurance industry on a golden platter. In any other political climate, Republicans would have a huge boner for this and Democrats would be throwing a fit. But things are ass-backwards. Dems know this is the best thing we could ever get, and the GOP rabble doesn't know it's ass from it's elbow and just follows the party line. |

||
| Dusk-You-n-Me With anticipation building for the Supreme Court decision on President Obama's healthcare reform law, a survey has found that advertising purchases opposed to the law more than tripled those in support of it, $250 million to $76 million. Link |
||
| Aarontology Poils like this always bug me, since they never ask specifically why they don't like something. For example, how many disapprove because they don't like the mandate, or don't think it goes far enough? And the fact that 77% of people want reform in some way throws things off too. The vast majority don't want things to be how they were before. Going back to the old status-quo isn't an option, yet nobody is really addressing that. |

| mrshowrules I wonder what the stats would be for Americans who have lived in one or more other industrialized countries. Reminds of people who thing their City/State/Province is the best in the Country without ever having been anywhere else. |

But shouldn't the brilliant campaigner be able to sell the message effectively? It's kinda hard to do that when the GOP is using a bullhorn next to you spewing lies about it. But the GOP really cares about us is all. It's not that they're actually evil or anything. |

The elite who don't fight in wars will decide when it is necessary to invade another country. The people who make their money exporting jobs will tell you how to fix the economy. |

They hate Obamacare, but I bet if you told them what it did and said it was a new proposal called the Affordable Care Act, they would be for it. Derp. |
||
| birchman
And when you poll them instead on the contents of the bill, they are overwhelmingly for the things it does. The problem is that the GOP has done a wonderful job of branding Obamacare as a bad thing and getting people to be against their own interests. Something they're very good at. |

Lando Lincoln: Most Americans don't know what's in Obamacare. Don't be ridiculous, Fox News is doing a great job of helping people remember the mandate part of Obamacare over time. The rest not so much but we all still remember the mandate. |

Look the high court is not going to strike this down, because if they do it farks 70 years of established law. That is right 70 years of commerce clause law will have to go back and retried. Although I'm rooting for the court to strike this down, because if they do the federal government can no longer enforce federal alcohol, tobacco, firearms or drug laws. All of those suddenly become matters for state control. I'm sure they will quickly find something to fix that and put those right back under Federal control, but it might take a few years. |

If only the President would have done something sensible like establishing high risk pools, creating tax incentives for business to provide insurance, requiring insurance companies to spend a floor limit amount on services, ending recissions and denials for preexisting conditions, providing premium support for people to purchase insurance, setting minimum coverage standards, allowing young people to stay on their parents' insurance, and lowering Medicare costs. Instead he had to push a bill which takes over the healthcare industry, rations care so that no one will ever be able to get an MRI or cardiac catheterization, forces mandatory abortions, and establishes death panels. |

If Obama didn't want to be known for his healthcare, he shouldn't have come to my house and executed my grandmother. |
||
| Cletus C.
I heard it allows Michelle Obama to call people fatties. |
||
| Dr Dreidel You know what's awesome? Obama's Facebook page has a graphic touting "Obamacare"'s successes. The name the GOP came up with to "smear" the PPACA and make it unpalatable to the masses, using the name of one of the least involved in its creation, is now the name by which the bill is known. And will be forever, amen. The same way Iraq is forever "Bush's War", a seminal moment in health insurance reform will be tied to Obama. And the GOP will eventually reclaim the individual mandate as their idea, and ~30% of the population will remember it that way. The more things change... |

Alternatively, they just have admit they're a bunch of partisan hacks who want to see the ruling hurt (D)'s but not (R)'s. You know, like Bush v. Gore. "We rule yadda yadda yadda but you cannot ever use this as precedent in the future." That one warmed my heart so much. |

These are the people who would have seen October 29, 1929, as a tremendous opportunity for bargain hunting. |

HotWingConspiracy: And they still support everything in it. No.... they support the parts they don't have to pay for. Everybody in this retarded little charade pretty much wants reform that gives them a benefit but doesn't make them pay for it in any way or place any new obligations on them. People love the adult children, no pre-existing conditions condition and companies must use 85% of premiums for health care parts, but nobody wants to be obligated to carry healthcare so that the numbers actually work to pay for those changes. Companies like the individual mandate but would rather not rather have the "regulations". Everybody wants everything and they want everybody else to have to pay for it. This is why we can't have nice things. |
