Will the Oilers trade or hold on to the number 1 pick for the third straight year? Who will go second after Yakupov? Will Americans even know this is happening? It's your NHL Draft discussion thread (7pm, NBCSN/TSN)

It's the day the Isles are most relevant!

I wouldn't mind some Ryan Murray action if he makes it to 4. We need some D. Though really I'm ok with the best player available strategy since D is definitely not the only issue with this team.

he won't make it past Columbus. Everything I've seen is that they farking love that kid at #2.

There's a lot of talk that the Oilers will try and get another top-10 pick though, that'll make things interesting.

Scott Howson continues to "run" the Bluejackets and attempts to solve their goaltending issues by trading a 2nd and 2 fourths to Philly for Bobrovsky.

God damn, the NHL should cap the number of consecutive #1 picks. It's not as if it's doing the Oilers any good now is it?

Sooner or later the Hall/RNH/Eberle line is going to score 130 goals between them, and Edmonton will have a fighting chance at reaching .500. You just watch.

Sabres have 4 picks in the first two rounds (#12, #21, #42 and #44).

Would love to see them package some of their wealth of high picks. Either to move up into the top 5, or more preferably, as part of a larger deal to acquire a roster player, particularly a center.

That can definitely happen. I was talking to my friend and he mentioned the possibility of packaging the pick in a trade for an established defenseman, or trading back a bit. We'll see.

This guy seems to have legit sources the last few years so maybe its true

@Eklund: Rumor I was told was the Bobrovsky trade by Columbus was because the Jackets lost out on Luongo to Toronto. Take it for what it's worth...

I wouldn't be surprised to see the NHL trot them out for a song between the 4th and 5th pick tonight.

If Luongo does go to Toronto, it will be interesting to see what the Leafs send to Vancouver or if it will essentially just be a salary dump.

Why the hell would Luongo want to play in Toronto anyway? I can't imagine that the constant pressure and media glare will do him any good, given that he has experience of collapsing in that environment.

Because if there's anyone who can navigate the Maple Leafs dysfunctional organization and rally the locker room around him, it's Roberto Luongo.

I agree with the pressure. Other than Montreal, Toronto is the worst market for pressure. If he thought Vancouver was bad it will be 10 times worse.

Heard a rumor that a deal of Bobby Ryan + Jonas Hiller in exchange for Ryan Miller was basically finalized last November, but got derailed at the last moment when Miller got concussed by Lucic.

Now that Bobby Ryan is apparently back on trade market, I wonder if Buffalo and Anaheim would still be interested in working out a trade.

Miller isn't worth Ryan & Hiller anymore

maybe Hiller alone but both? That is crazy

Buffalo's interest would be in getting Ryan. They wouldn't be interested in Hiller alone.

And make no mistake, Miller still has high trade value. He had bad numbers this season while still recovering from his concussion. After fully recovered, he was back to form playing as one of the top five goalies in the league. Check out his stats from the All-Star Game to the end of the season.

yes but if you look at his overall stats and difference between wins/losses he is on a downturn as he gets older

I still think giving up Ryan for a goalie whos best days are past him is not a good idea, plus the west would eat him up i believe, the west is tougher on goalies than the east, itd be like facing a lucic every night ready to run you over

Flames are trying to deal Bouwmeester.

LOL!

Good luck with that contract.

FAN960 was saying the Flames should make a bid for Jagr.

It's not going to happen. Luongo wants to be near the wifes family and there is no way the Leafs are taking on that kind of insane contract.

Speaking of ridiculous rumors, everyone in Ottawa is currently wrecking their pants thinking they're going to land Rick Nash for Zibanijad, Foligno and a goalie(rumored to be Bishop).

I heard Staal wants to go someplace where he would be higher on the depth chart than #3 center.

Which he's never going to be playing behing Crosby and Malkin.

Does that matter if he's still planning to take the year off? Or was that just a ploy? In any event, thanks for helping the Bruins get the Cup last year, but good riddance to you, moronic teabagger.

There's a ton of rumours flying around but it's a little light on action thus far.

I personally think that the Oilers are farking with everyone making it seem like they're going to pick Murray; this is despite the fact that the Oilers have been consistent in picking BPA regardless of position. They picked Hall over Seguin despite needing a centre and they picked RNH because they figured he'd be the best.

Yakupov may be a winger but he's by and large the BPA. Murray may be the most NHL-ready but that doesn't make him the best.

That's the most likely one. Tampa also has a glut of young prospects so parting with one or two wouldn't be very damaging long term. Some folks I know have thrown around Luongo for Lecavalier straight up but I don't see two contracts of that size getting swapped(although if Luongo does land in T-Bay I think Vinnys days are numbered).

If it does happen I may very well deliver a Fist of the North Star level facepalm. Contracts like that scare the hell out of me and if Luongo decides to throw a snit over playing for the Leafs, well........

On that note, from Pierre LeBrun

a team would have to give them a pretty convincing package (immediate NHL upgrade on defence would be a good start) in order for Tambellini to even consider it.

Toronto may have a more brutal media in general, but the Vancouver media specializes in destroying our goalies.
