Talking about sports based on what actually happened on the field/court/whatever, rather than vague narratives that make no sense when you stop & think about them for 5 seconds? Never gonna happen.

Anyone who hates Bayless is good. Though I personally call his partner in crime "Stephen A(ngry) Smith." Just seems more fitting to me.

Thoughts?

So much so. He's one of the main reasons why I have been a fan of the Mavs for a long time.

I hated him at first but when you listen to him, he's a cool guy. I liked him in Shark Tank and now with this, he's earned a lot of points with me. Plus, he did this...

Still watching. Look at Skippy stewing while Cuban goes on his 3 minute rant. Then he tries to turn it on Cuban "You just made a generality statement too"

/saving this video for prosperity

I loved the look of contempt on Cuban's face at the end when he asked him, "Why do you play a zone, Skip?" after Bayless explained that Lebron didn't go to the basket against Dallas's zone.

I was hoping he actually destroyed him with some sort of obliteration ray that only awesome rich guys like Cuban have access to.

Leaving disappointed.

Not too mention that Dallas' packed in zone had Tyson Chandler(Defensive MVP) guarding the rim. Skip Bayless is a chump. Cuban just exposed his complete sports toolness.

Bayless is going to have to regroup and take it one conversation at a time. I think he can come back but it is going to take a lot of hard work and determination.

When can we get people "not wanting to watch First Take more"?

If we can't get a law allowing Troy Aikman to beat Skip Bayless within an inch of his life, can we at least get people to quit watching shiatty TV?

As a Spurs fan, I'm contractually prevented from "loving" Cuban.

But it wouldn't break my heart if he bought a team I liked in a different sport.

That was beautiful, but if sports "reporters" talked about zone defenses for 20 minutes at a time no one would watch. You are a victim of your own success Mark. Sports are now an entertainment industry. Skip Bayless is to the NBA what Joan Rivers is to Hollywood, an annoying necessity.

TNT seems to deal with the strategy of the game pretty well, and they're my preferred NBA network. Kenny and Chris Webber are fantastic analysts.

Hell, ESPN's NFL coverage goes deep into strategy and people apparently eat that shiat up.

As correct as Mark Cuban is about the media in general, you can't sit there and act like it isn't just a ratings game like everything else on TV these days. If all sports analysts did was spit out facts and actually analyze the intricacies of the game, then there wouldn't be much controversy to get people riled up (and also the average viewer probably doesn't know or care that much about the details). It isn't about being right, or actually analyzing anything. Its about what ESPN can do to get more viewers which leads to more money. Simple s**t people.

Hey, @mcuban: Impressed you're taking the challenge to debate me face to face, today in Miami, 10:45 E, ESPN2. Looking very forward to it.

Except Cuban asked him questions to show he actually understood basketball and Skip couldn't answer. He doesn't even know basic defenses. He can say what he wants for ratings all he wants, but when challenged on basketball knowledge he fails.

I'd be willing to guess that is because the NFL is the favorite professional sport to spectate in the US. More people are more invested in the NFL, and the game is indeed chock full of strategy. You have 22 moving pieces that you have to account for on every down. Stopping to think about what your next move is is built right into the rules of the game. Commentators have time to analyze almost every play in the game, while the game is on. Basketball in general is just not as complex in terms of strategy. Anyone listen to what NBA coaches tell their players during timeouts? Unless it is the end of the game and the score is very close they aren't drawing up plays and telling people exactly what to do.

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not defending ESPN or Skip's complete and utter failure to even fake that he knows what he is talking about. If you didn't already know that Skip was just some ratings-grabbing mouthpiece then this clip was eye-opening. All I'm saying is that nobody should be that surprised.

Better to keep quiet and let everyone think you are a fool....

The best was Cubes asking about defense, and Skip responding with 'so and so was SUPPOSED to...'.. How the fark do you know that? Maybe under the current scheme, so and so was supposed to be doing just what he did. Explain 'well, they were playing an up zone and with this rotation, he should have moved to cover....' Its a debate, jackass. 'Just because' or 'he was the closest defender' doesn't cut it, esp. when debating somone who obviously knows a few things.

Also, I doubt there are many pro franchise owners who understand the strategy and gameplay at the same level as Cuban. I'm sure there are a few, but its a small club.

That was nothing but class. It's too easy to give in to frustration in a situation like that, always nice to see when they go above that.

I find ESPN useful. When I am at work, I leave it on for my parrots, so they have mindless, pointless banter to listen to. Granted, I just need to put NPR on for them and mute the TV.
