| Mugato Scientists discovered that a poor night's sleep can trigger a vicious cycle of unhealthy snacking throughout the day. They need scientists to figure that out? |
||
| Mr. Coffee Nerves What? You mean when I have brutal insomnia and spend an extra six hours awake I might actually shove more food into my maw out of boredom and frustration? |
||
| skinink I'm not fat. I just don't sleep much. |

I always thought if you realized behavioral psychology was in operation, it no longer was. I used to work nights and I know the temptation is certainly there to overeat because it'll give you energy or because you gotta do something, but I also was capable of simply NOT DOING IT. |

| loonatic112358 makes sense, when I've stayed up very long, I get a case of munchies that would rival a pot heads I have no idea why eating a whole pie made sense at 1 am, no I wasn't enjoying any recreational pharmaceuticals |

I didn't have insomnia, per se, but I don't think my sleep has been very restful lately, which is why I'm doing it a lot more. I have been having vivid nightmares, though. Which suck. /Day 13. |

MayoSlather: Your choice of user name may be an indication of why you suffer brutal insomnia. Heh. I worked with an older guy years ago that complained about his heart racing all the time. He was worried about it, and was going to see his doctor. "How much coffee do you drink?" I asked him. "I drink coffee all day long, every day." I'm no doctor, but... |

4 out of 5 bath salt zombies approve of this headline. |

| JasonOfOrillia It can trigger a nasty feedback loop. If you get heavy you can get sleep apnea. The apnea can prevent you from getting good sleep similar to not sleeping at all. This can cause the extra hunger during the day causing you to gain even more weight. |

I guess to each their own. I find that stress and anxiety have a lot more of an affect on me than drinking. Of course, I'm not looking to quit the drinking part. The stress and anxiety part- yeah, I gotta get rid of that. |

I used to work nights and I know the temptation is certainly there to overeat because it'll give you energy or because you gotta do something, but I also was capable of simply NOT DOING IT. I had the complete opposite reaction to working overnights. I have never been healthier or fitter than when I slept from 7 am until 3 pm. 11p to 7a just doesn't work as well for me. Looking at the rest of the world around me, I would say that many people would probably feel a lot better if the normal working day let them sleep in until about 9 and expected the day to start at 10:30 or 11 in the morning. |

Mr. Coffee Nerves: What? You mean when I have brutal insomnia and spend an extra six hours awake I might actually shove more food into my maw out of boredom and frustration? Its not that they eat, its what they eat since they feel the need to wake up so they grab sugary foods for the energy rush. I used to do that after 4 shoulder surgeries but finally just forced myself to fight through the pain to get back in shape. It wasn't easy but after doing all that I have my weight back to almost what it was in high school and a pissed off GF since I didn't take time to train her as well. |

Write them down and you could be the next Stephen King. I suffer from chronic insomnia and sleep apnea. Haven't had a good nights rest for over 20 years. At the moment, I'm get about 4/5 hours of sleep a day. On the up side though, I get more hours to do other stuff like playing games and writing scripts. |

| Lsherm JasonOfOrillia: It can trigger a nasty feedback loop. If you get heavy you can get sleep apnea. The apnea can prevent you from getting good sleep similar to not sleeping at all. This can cause the extra hunger during the day causing you to gain even more weight. Weight can exacerbate sleep apnea, but it usually isn't the cause. Most obstructive sleep apnea appears as a person ages and the muscles in the back of their throat relax. Since people also get heavier as they age, most people think sleep apnea is caused by weight gain, but that isn't true. I finally got the apnea treated when I was 40, but I had it since I was 18 years old. And I wasn't heavy, either, about 160 and 5'10". If you think you have sleep apnea - get a sleep test. It will change your life, I guarantee it. I didn't dream for 20 years. I was tired all the time, I couldn't focus on anything when I was awake, and my blood pressure was through the farking roof. All of that went away overnight (pardon the pun) once I got the CPAP machine. |

LoneWolf343: Well, that explains a lot. I sleep like crap before work days. /night owl I don't know your schedule, but if you can stick with sleeping during the same daylight hours even when you have a night off, you'll feel a lot better. On a night off, I'd turn in a little early, but I'd still be up til at least 5 in the morning. Regularity is key to quality sleep. |
