Sure it is, they keep saying that yet erosion is a greater cause of land loss than any rise is in oceans. |

subby: Fark's favorite state is slowing sinking into the sea. So...the rate at which it is sinking into the sea is decreasing, then? Sounds like good news for Floridians, for a change. |

Rufus Lee King: I never did understand all the Florida hate on this site. How many of you people disparaging Florida have even been there? I'm there quite a bit, and honestly don't see what's so bad. Is it some kind of elaborate joke that I don't get? Hell, I guess. Fark Rule: Rule #15801453, Farkers hate on everything but beer Rule #15801453.1 The beer that you like sucks. |

Florida has been underwater before and it will be again. They have shell pits and quarries in the middle of the state that routinely yield marine fossils when dug. I live on a barrier island here and have no illusions that it will be underwater again at some point in the future. |

Then it became a meme around here and here we are. |

The subject of global warming has become so politically unpalatable over the last few years that neither party mentions it much anymore . . . . Ben Strauss, chief operating officer of Climate Central, an independent research and journalism organization, warned that much of the southern peninsula south of Lake Okeechobee would be virtually uninhabitable within 250 years. . . . . . "There's good reason to believe southern Florida will eventually have to be evacuated," Strauss told some 275 scientists and climate and planning experts from government agencies, insurance companies, construction experts and other businesses likely to be impacted by rising seas. While scientists can't yet predict with certainty how fast and high seas will eventually rise . . . Well, gee. This certainly isn't just some asshole trying to save his dying company by panicking business leaders and politicians with junk science. |

| BolloxReader steamingpile: Sure it is, they keep saying that yet erosion is a greater cause of land loss than any rise is in oceans. I'm pretty sure they factor erosion into their modeling. We are past the point where we can actually stop manmade global climate change. Now they are putting together proposals for fixes that are far more expensive than the preventative measures earlier proposed. Now we have to prepare for climate refugees and build infrastructure to support mass migration away from places like Miami. The other option would be to build artificial cities capable of surviving hurricanes. The technology is available to do it, but you'd have to have one hell of an economic incentive to build it. So far nobody has come up with a great enough need to implement such designs. The threat of Floridians moving next door and spontaneously organizing draconian HOAs may motivate the rest of the country, however. |

I doubt they would listen to or believe you. In order to get them to leave just say that residents of Florida have to: 1. Pay state taxes 2. Live in another state to use Medicare and Social Security 3. Wear pants and closed toe shoes. |

So you just ignore years of geological study and ignore climate shift because of pole correction to say man is the only one who could cause climate changes. Google dry lake beds in north Africa or just watch the documentary that national geographic did about how the earth has shifted its axis since its existence. |

Is it some kind of elaborate joke that I don't get? Hell, I guess. Rufus, I hate Florida. I've been to Florida several times and I lived there for more than a year in the early 90s. In my experience, Florida has an excess of each of the following things that I do not care for: - hot - old - animals that bite (gators, insects) - attention whores - sandy soil - flat And I didn't initially spend time in Northern Florida, but I've learned that it's just Georgia Lite. But hey, that's just my opinion and I'm only giving it because you asked. |

No worries, they just need to pass a law making sea level rise illegal. |

Unfortunately it is only sinking slowly, I'll be impressed when we can get the sinking to speed up. Rufus Lee King: I never did understand all the Florida hate on this site. How many of you people disparaging Florida have even been there? I'm there quite a bit, and honestly don't see what's so bad. Is it some kind of elaborate joke that I don't get? Hell, I guess. I think it has to do with the large number of stories involving the most ridiculous behaviour displayed by some form of crazy person that originate from Florida. Not so much hate as knowing when you see some completely bizarre tale involving a ludicrous lack of logic you know the chances are high that it took place in Florida. Take notes and see how often this is the case, maybe it is the heat that drives people nuts. |

according to scientists in Liverpool, England, the ocean levels have been rising for the last 1000 years. That makes it rather difficult to put the blame on global warming unless you are really, really stupid. Sadly, the people who believe in global warming are really, really, really stupid. |
