I am quite surprised that I never heard of him until this article. I thought I was up to date on all of these hypocrites.

Yeah, this is one of the weirder groups in US politics.

Hell, none of these guys are even just anti-gay-marriage (which has some relatively inoffensive variants), they're all straight-up "anyone making sexual contact with another person of the same sex is SATAN and must be DRIVEN OUT" types.

Which I guess makes it make both less and more sense. Less in that that's a pretty big contradiction, and more in that they were obviously farking crazy from the get-go.

In a lot of ways I feel really bad for these guys. Jerks, the lot of them, but still pitiable on some level. When you're advocating positions and stroking the flames of hate that drive teenage kids to suicide and the mentally unstable to violence while being the thing you rally against, can't be easy to sleep at night. Except for when it is, of course, and to hell with those.

Actually, in terms of sexual deviations it's relatively easy to explain. Some people get off on Taboo breaking in the same way that some people get off on feet or S&M. It's a kink with a lot of collateral damage, but I don't think psychologically it's any weirder or makes people more "pitiable" than preferring blondes to brunettes or whatever.
