Take out the instigator rule so players think twice before hitting cindy. Also Cindy was acting like a cry baby biatch in the 1st round. |

Damn, that's a lot of money. |
||
| FreakinB Despite the fact that Crosby routinely makes my favorite team his stable of biatches, I really hope he gets to play most of this out without a major injury. I know he has his imperfections, but he's such a rare talent. |

To call the greatest player of our generation by the female equivalent of his proper name is an OUTRAGE! And furthermore..! Oh, wait... ontariolightning. Oh, I see. Ok then. Go Penguins. |

Love him or hate him, dude's got talent that nobody in the league can match right now. I hope he sets the league on fire next year. |

||
| Donnchadha Interestingly, he's not getting a pay raise -- still at $8.7 million a year (he seems to like 87 for some reason). I don't think this is a DiPietro situation on two levels -- 1) DiPietro didn't turn a franchise around and win a Stanley Cup in the process and 2) Pittsburgh teams are known for rewarding loyalty -- Mario himself signed a long term contract making him the first "Penguin For Life" and it doesn't surprise me that he's offered Crosby the same. |

| ClavellBCMI You just *know* someone is going to do their very best to absolutely *LEVEL* Sid in the first 6 weeks of the season, if only because of jealousy over both his talent and his contract. And I will be cheering when it happens. And I am hoping it is an absolutely 100% clean, legal hit mid-ice (I don't want him seriously hurt, just given the message that either he takes the hits everyone else gets like a man, or he cries like a little girl to the officials and loses all respect from everyone on the ice with him). |

I piss my pants just anticipating the next flyers pens game |

Wow. For a guy that can't stay on the ice and is one concussion away from having to retire that's just....retarded. I'm all for it. /Go Caps! |

Having 4 straight top two picks in the NHL draft has a lot of do with that. I'd argue it's next to impossible for a team to fail when they get to draft Marc Andre Fleury, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal over four years. I'm glad to see Crosby's loyalty to the Pittsburgh Penguins be rewarded, but think it's batshiat crazy to give a guy with concussion issues a 12 year deal. |

If he plays one season, the Penguins are going to make the majority of that $104 million back in merchandising sales and ancillary revenues just from his being there. I'm sure they're not worrying too much. |

I recognize his skills, but his biatchy attitude about getting hit turns me off. That's why opponents want to line him up so often. Mario was the same way with better scoring numbers. Crosby would be a good fit with the Canadiens. |

That insurance company on the other hand is gambling that he is past his concussion issues. |

Crosby never had a major concussion. He had a minor concussion and a neck injury that was misdiagnosed as a concussion. Once the proper treatment was given for the neck injury, he was fine. Crosby will be fine, no more succeptable to major injury than anyone else in the league. |

I know nothing about the contract goings-on in hockey, or how their CBA works, but I just saw the Kings gave their goalie a 10-year extension on his contract, which brings to a few questions: Is it common for NHL teams to give players those many years on their deals? And how often do players actually play out the entirety of the contract w/ that team? Is the money guaranteed, or can teams release a player like in the NFL, effectively terminating the contract? |

Is the money guaranteed, or can teams release a player like in the NFL, effectively terminating the contract? Now that teams know they can front load the contracts to keep the cap hit low and have ample opportunities later to be rid of them (bury player in the minors, trade to a team that has cap space to spare but don't need to pay that amount in actual salary) it is the norm for all star players rather than the exception. The money is guaranteed (even if they're in the minors) unless the player retires or refuses to report to the team. I hate the contracts, since I would rather have the cap hit reflect the actual salary, but it is what it is. It helps the big market teams but if the alternative is just letting the owners pocket the money when they reach the cap I guess it's the lesser of two evils. Don't know the details of the Crosby deal yet, but the Quick contract is definitely front loaded. Can't be as bad as that original Kovalchuk deal. (Come on....until he's 44?) The Brad Richards deal is bad too (making $12 million, cap hit under $7? Final 3 years at $1 million?) |

I'm sure there's an injury based retirement clause in there though. If his symptoms keeps him from playing more than 4 years, I'm sure they won't keep paying him $8.7 million to do be retired for 8. |

I love all of those guys and would kill to have Giroux and Malkin on Tampa alongside Stamkos and St. Louis, but I still think that Crosby is the best player in the game. He's a lifetime 1.4 PPG player, spent how many months on the disabled list and came back to finish the season with a PPG average of 1.68 over 22 games. |

I want to see if he can play an entire season without injury problems before I think of him as one of the best in the game again. I have no doubt he can put up the numbers, I just want to see him play a full season first. If he can, then he will deserve this contract extension. If not, then the Pens will have made a huge error. As for Quick, after the season he had; the Kings had better lock him up. I just wish he wasn't in our division. |

Even if the guy is knocked silly and has to sit in a dark room for weeks unable to ever play again, Mario will have a spot for him somewhere in the organization. Not matter how long his contract, he's going to get paid by the Pens one way or another. As far as the glove pushing incident, I was glad he did it. Less complaining, more of an edge and he may start to win over those who dislike him, myself included. But those who hate him, it gives them another reason to get all butt hurt after Crosby lights it up against their favorite team. I can always applaud a dick move when I see one if nobody gets hurt. I hope he's spent his off season pulling the chair out from under people as they go to sit down. |

I would put Merkin either equal to or a little over crosby. His grit, size and skill make him incredibly difficult to get the puck away from, he can throw the body and do damage, and this year he completely carried that team. I mean, he turned James Neal into a 40 goal scorer while putting 50 of his own up. He's more durable than sid, and has shown over the past 2 seasons that he can be a leader if the team needs him to be. A 1.2 PPG is nothing to scoff at as well. |

If you look at talent alone, I'd go Malkin, Stamkos, Crosby in my top 3 with Giroux just outside of that. But my point is that talent means nothing if the guy is going to get hurt and miss games. |

Bullseyed: Well, when is the last time you saw Crosby block a shot? Many times last season. Have you actually watched him play? Always backchecking and doing whatever is necessary. And again, he's only had one minor concussion. The real issue was a misdiagnosis of the real cause of the injury. |

Hi, I'm Sindey Crosby and I used to play in the NHL. I'm here to tell you about HoverRound, HoverRound takes me...where I want to go. |
||
| HockeyGod98
Let's look at the converse. Say the Penguins don't sign him to a long term deal, and Crosby spends the next decade tearing it up and shoving it up the asses of Pittsburgh management for letting the face of the franchise walk. What was the stupid decision then? Every athlete is potentially one play away from retirement. All of them. The rewards of locking Crosby up long term far outweigh the risks. The only real risk for the Penguins franchise itself is paying out all that money, but they'd make that back one way or another anyway, regardless of whether Crosby's in the lineup or not. And keep up with the name calling and vague, fictional criticisms. It makes you look intelligent and mature; the qualities that make the internet go round. |
