JohnAnnArbor: CruJones: JohnAnnArbor: sporked Huh? The spork image used "it's" instead of "its." Ahhh. I was just reading the quote. Carry on. |

JackieRabbit: Sorry, but I'm not buying this story. Either the cops beat this guy or some other inmate killed him. They are manufacturing this plastic spoon stabbing story to prevent their jail from being investigated for failure to protect inmates. Yep, this. |

![]() Can't see this being used to kill yourself. Seems to weak to pierce a soggy dinner roll let alone skin. |

Indubitably: Indubitably: *sigh* Lies. I'm not saying it's impossible to die from a shard of plastic, but my gris-senses are tingling... |

strangeluck: jdcgonzalez: I've had one (female) try to cut her breasts off with sharpened spork, another (male) try to hang himself with a noose made from his own clothing. Had another one open a vein with a little ID badge clip. The list goes on. Take away everything they have and put them in a paper gown and they will smash their head into the wall until you ask them nicely to stop. If they went to make an attempt (or just cry out for help/attention), they will do it, no matter what you do to intervene. They teach us that people facing long sentences, etc are more likely to make an attempt. Doesn't mean it is always the case. The three I mentioned were all short timers. One was only a day or two from going home. Another was within a week or so. Sometimes the fear of leaving prison is worse than going to prison to begin with. /CO of 8 years /csb Completely agree, it's amazing what an offender can do when they want to harm themselves. People think the stuff Macgyver or the A-Team can make is incredible, leave an inmate alone for twenty minutes with virtually nothing, you'll come back to search the cell and find weapons and tools made from stuff you didn't think possible. Man the weird shiat I've found shaking down cells, it will amaze people. /CO 2 years. /TX One elderly female inmate had trouble leaning over to clean under her bunk, so she rolled up a few pieces of paper into a long handle to which she attached a kleenex -- sort of a homemade dustmop. One of the COs found the paper tube (sans the kleenex mop head) and declared it a "blowgun". Elderly inmate was charged with making and having a weapon in her cell -- a very serious charge that likely added quite a bit of time to her sentence. Any prison system can be a swirling microcosm of stupidity and creativity on both sides of the bars. /Was a CO in TX for 8 months. Nope, don't remember exactly what that inmate was in for, but it was a minimum security joint. |

You have to really look out for officers blowing stuff out of proportion, especially the noobs. And the ones that have a hrd on for certain inmates. The situation above did not warrant that. We are supposed to keep level heads, not lose them. Oh well. It's a messed up system. Some of us try to make it work. |
