Actually, Nationwide sort of fits such a tour, and doesn't bother me so much. Like Great American Insurance getting the rights to the Reds' stadium: Great American Ballpark just rolls off the tongue.

I liked the original name of this tour, the "Ben Hogan Tour." Like all things, money changes everything.

That. Nationwide doesn't sound like a sponsor, it sounds like a description.

Agreed as well. It's not so much the fact that a sponsor exists. When it comes to naming rights, all fans really ask is a good name. (Except in cases where the name has been around for, like, 50 years running. Then they just want THAT name.) Nobody complains about the Nationwide Tour or Great American Ballpark. Those are good names. Nobody complains about Miller Park. Nobody complains about Busch Stadium.

Nobody gets into too much of a tiff over, say, Target Field or Reliant Stadium or Progressive Field. They're not ideal names, but they could be a lot worse.

When you get into, say, U.S. Cellular Field, or M&T Bank Stadium, or Lucas Oil Stadium, that's when the fans start getting pissed.

And God help you if you're changing the stadium name every year. Eventually the fans will just settle on a neutral name and disregard the sponsorship entirely, such as 'the Oakland Coliseum' or 'Dolphins Stadium' or how NASCAR fans refer to most races by the common name of the track (e.g. 'Michigan') and not the 'Heluva Good Sour Cream Dips 400' or whatever.

See, now this is going to get confusing when I have to explain this to my wife. She'll say something wifey like, "How's Tiger doing?" and I'll say, "This is just the web.com tour", then she'll think it's a video game and byatch about me playing too much xbox or something.
