It's still the perverts fault, but you can try and avoid being their target. I guess then it's a coverup race to burkas, because someone always has to be the most scantily clad.

Dressing conservatively on the subway has nothing to do with preventing sexual harassment. It's purely an effort to lessen the amount of skin contact with any surface in those germ infested, sardine cans.

/once saw a guy pick his nose, examine the findings and then slowly smear them across the seat in front of him

Absolutely, 100%. Yet, somehow you'll still get droves of people biatching you out because you're "blaming the victim." Nevermind the fact that there are often steps the victim could have taken to minimize their risk...

If someone engages in risky behavior, does that make it their fault when something bad happens? In my opinion, partially, yes. Does it make it any less the fault of the attacker? No.

Think about the types of guys that molest women on the subway. Now imagine them in female form. Still sound sexy?

He must have a long lost relative in Shanghai.

The best part is you can justify it as both "Diversity" and "Sexual Harassment Awareness Training".

looking at someone (who has dressed for attention) is harassment?

also, please for the love of god tell me that the slut walk stupidness isnt spreading.

its as if personal responsibility is something that gets thrown out the window as soon as women and sexuality is involved.

I sometimes stare at horror at the girls on Shanghai's subway system and Changsha's bus system because I'm thinking "You're actually touching that with your bare skin?". I guess they must all thing I'm the white devil of sexual harassment.

Also if you're going to dress like one of the rural sex workers in the big city, you're going to catch some flack because of it. I carry my wallet in my front pocket because pick pockets are so common in Changsha. The girls just have to stay away from certain clothing choices because of the sex workers.

Women who aren't scantily dressed get groped and harassed, too. It's not about dress. So, dressing so you aren't "a target" won't solve the problem.

I have no idea if it's true or not, but I've heard that groping got so bad on the subway system in Tokyo that they started putting women's only cars at the ends of the train. From how the story goes, it backfired - guys started assuming that any women not in those cars (which were routinely so full you couldn't get on them) wanted to be groped.

won't solve the problem

And if we can't solve the whole problem with one piece of advice, there is absolutely no sense in following that piece of advice.

Sage advice, indeed.

WH-WH-WHAAA!?!? You can't say that, you sexist sumbiatch! Women can wear WHATEVER THEY WANT! You're just enabling inappropriate behavior!

Also, the temperature on the subway tends to be a tad cooler than up on the street. Many women I see wearing shorts often carry a little shawl or something to cover their legs.

No, I don't think looking at someone like that is harrassment. Groping is harrassment, though, unless it's theft.

That's what slut walk is about. Look but don't touch.

Risky behavior: Jumping off a cliff. Sky diving. Sticking your dick in a plugged in blender. Covering yourself in meat and dancing in front of hungry wildcats who lack the reasoning ability to distinguish your tasty flesh from the tasty meat coating.
Not Risky: Getting dressed in the morning.

Nope, you're still an idiot. There is nothing inherently risky about any of the behavior you're blaming the victim for.

"If the eyes of the 'observer', i.e. the point E, is right on the extension of segment BC, then point B would fall into his eyesight. Then, let's make another line of DE which goes through E and is perpendicular to the extension of AC, then the right triangle of DEC is similar to the right triangle of ABC. So clearly, the length of DC is the horizontal distance between the man's eye and the lady's skirt. Ladies, have you figured that out?"

I was told there would be no geometry involved.
