Things get a little strange here: there is indeed a religion whose followers call themselves Jewish, but there is also an ethnicity whose followers call themselves Jewish (actually, this is an oversimplification: there are several such ethnicities, though they don't usually dispute one another's claims). The "Jewish" referred to in this headline is of the ethnic variety, and that's harder to escape from than simply renouncing one's faith.

A lot of modern anti-Semitism is based on the ethnic version, and if TFA is any indication, this guy's anti-Semitism is as well. This actually fairly new, though, well, you know who else did it (some say he even invented it, and he was certainly the first to make it popular).

One of tfa's comments mentioned a Hungarian saying about this time, the ice cream licked back.

if your momma was Jewish, YOU are Jewish, and she was Jewish if Her momma was. It's basically a matrelineal thing, and because it's both a religion and tribal identity, conversion/apostasy doesn't get you out of it.

Jewish is actually more than a religion.

It's actually debated in the more modern parts Jewish community, if "Jewish" is an ethnicity anymore. Sure, traditionally that's the case, but then it means that some Jews are less Jews than others, and that's problematic.
