| Sybarite At least he didn't just shove the corpse in a closet or leave it in the bed like they usually do in these stories. |

born_yesterday: Um, couldn't you empty the account and have the body buried? Apparently not. My mother was in a joint checking account with her brother-in-law for years and helped him by making his deposits and paying bills while he was progressively getting worse. When he died, the lawyer told mom she should not even make deposits for a few months while the details of the will were settled. Even though she is technically and legally entitled to half the account, she cannot yet use it. |

born_yesterday: Um, couldn't you empty the account and have the body buried? Not to be snarky about it, but a proper burial costs an arm and a leg. This stuff probably happens several times a month, if not several times a day. |

born_yesterday: Um, couldn't you empty the account and have the body buried? If she had, say, outstanding credit card debts or back taxes, those are supposed to be paid out of the estate before the inheritors get a penny. Will or no will. |

trappedspirit: Have a bonanza with the checking account? Is that how English works now? It should be more natural, brother, it should flow out like this: "Look man, I ain't havin' no bonanza with the checkin' account!" |

This one was patient. I have 2 aunts that that didn't wait for the death of my grandparents. One each on my mothers and fathers sides of the family. Why split with your family when you can run thru the cash sell the antiques and cash out life insurance policies. I am so glad that my brother and I don't want or need anything from our parents. |

Fortunately, we stopped her before she did something that would make the IRS and probate court come knocking. |

| meow said the dog trappedspirit: Have a bonanza with the checking account? Is that how English works now? Yes this worked quite the fine way for me thank you very much for the compliment of this! Also I believe that the issue here could also be that this is not really the mother of him and she is also the missing person because the police are trying to solve this and perhaps he had the lover who was the elderly woman. /submitter of the thread upon which you have had the bonanza |

This stuff probably happens several times a month, if not several times a day. That got me to thinking, randomly, what if you didn't like the deceased person and didn't want to spend any money on the burial. Could you just call 911 and report the body and be done with it? Presumably the coroner would eventually contact you to release the body. Could you just say "I don't want it, do whatever you want with it"? /I don't have any relations I'd do that for //but it's Friday and my mind is wandering |
