| freewill Adding a photo to your content is an effective way to improve user engagement. Just not that photo. Then again, this probably generated a nice traffic spike. |

Subby, I don't think you understand. All Austrians look like that. It does look strange to the rest of us, and because their mouths are so pixilated, they can only talk in muffled grunts. |

| Molavian Thank Christ. I clicked on that expecting it to be some newly-discovered nightmarish poisonous insect the size of my head. |

Foreign countries take the presumption of innocence more seriously & ban photographs of the accused until they've been found guilty. No perp walks. No released mugshots. Wouldn't pass First Amendment scrutiny here, but a pretty fascinating quirk between different legal systems and values. |

he should see a doctor about that... /not a pediatrician... |

Yeah, great job of obscuring his identity. How about, say, not publishing a picture? Or giving away all of the information necessary to deduce who it is? It's a frickin' burlesque, but without the bbw. |

Clearly I know nothing about South Australian law, but why is it illegal to identify an adult and/or show his face who has been charged with a crime? |

Eh, we know who he is.We just pretend that the internets can't get past the dingo fence. |

You'll have to excuse me, I'm new here, so I ain't rightly certain: is everyone in this country as pixelated as the PM? |

Molavian: Thank Christ. I clicked on that expecting it to be some newly-discovered nightmarish poisonous insect the size of my head. It was, it just happened to be eating the head of an australian mp who is being charged with accessing child porn. /so maybe it's a good poisonous insect |

Well, so much for that idea... |

| freewill Spiralmonkey: Crewmannumber6: Have you seen this man? Yes. Bernard Finnigan [images.whereilive.com.au image 326x245] Allegedly. Why is that tooth in the middle of his face? |

| HighZoolander
No helpful picture of what child porn may look like? /although for all we know such a picture was stapled to the guy's face |

| ForMadmenOnly BikerRay: Well, so much for that idea... [i.imgur.com image 525x221] This made me lol way more than it should have. |

Agent1945: Foreign countries take the presumption of innocence more seriously & ban photographs of the accused until they've been found guilty. No perp walks. No released mugshots. Wouldn't pass First Amendment scrutiny here, but a pretty fascinating quirk between different legal systems and values. Funny...that sounds familiar...where have I heard something like that before... Oh, yeah, "...of the people, by the people, for the people..." was in some Sci-Fi movie I saw. That's right. |

The identity obscuration is because this is a sex crime. It is acknowledged in our law that simply accusing someone of such a thing taints them forever. Sometimes the accused will have his identity hidden to protect the victim. The picture is published like this anyway as a protest by the newspaper against the suppression order. You can tell this because of all the identifying information they put in, which was carefully worded to comply with the letter of the suppression order, but not the intent. News organisations here have lawyers who file against suppression orders every day. It is part of the system that keeps the bastards honest. |

Spiralmonkey: Crewmannumber6: Have you seen this man? Yes. Bernard Finnigan [images.whereilive.com.au image 326x245] Allegedly. Yikes! Put the pixels back on it, that is one serious case of the fuglies and hurts my eyes. No one should be subjected to that picture, it is just inhumane. |
