That could have been my Beagle. Put her in a small (appropriate for her size) plastic crate and within minutes you'd hear the same howling/crying as yours then it would sound like you were dropping the crate down the stairs for a few minutes at which point she would escape. Tried a metal cage for a large dog with the same result. Basically gave up and let her roam the house.

If I had a dog like that I'd get its vocal cords docked.

Sounds just like my mom n dads Beagle when he doesn't get his way. lol. Glad neither one of those dogs are mine. I would be thinking about why I didn't get a nice little mute dog or maybe another cat.

Yeah, mine makes whining/howling noises when he doesn't get his way, too. They're loud little dogs, but they sure are fun to have around.
