| No one in America is supposed to be above the law, yet so-called "elites" are held to a lower standard. If anything, however, they should be held to a higher one |

So by "elites" does he mean democrat, eductated, or black? |

| Lost Thought 00 Said without a hint of self-aware irony |
||
| Lost Thought 00 Also, you really don't want to give Congress the general power to arrest people. It wouldn't end well |

Oh, Eric Holder. He's definitely not what I think of when I think of the elite that are held to a lower standard. /sad I had to click on the link to find out. |

I just wanna throw in an AMEN for the Maker's Mark ad that pops up when you click on this link. How appropriate! |

I make it a point not to click on American Thinker articles, but I'm glad to see somebody on the right is finally speaking out against the corporate greed of wall street executives and how terrible it is that they've escaped criminal punishment thus far. |

If it will avoid our precious Eric having to answer for what happened on his watch, I too will be for allowing people in high places to get away with it! |

Cromulent User Name: So by "elites" does he mean democrat, eductated, or black? Exactly. I mean, in theory I'd agree completely with the general idea - everyone in America damn well is supposed to be equal in the eyes of the law and those in power need greater accountability not less... But that's not REALLY what he means. This is just some bullshiat partisan screed. |

| Dr Dreidel Who are these elites and why are they so called? You wanted to create a group just to demonize them. And because you're American Th*nker, that group is "Obama-related people". // if your definition is "wealthy people", we can have a chat // but expecting honest arguments from AT is like expecting Jean-Francois Hollande to defenestrate Sarah Palin while dancing the kazatzka to Benny Hill |

It begets a Justice John Roberts, who -- likely motivated by concern for the U.S. Extreme Court's reputation, his own, or both -- visited a blatantly unconstitutional and disastrous piece of legislation upon all of us. That NOM NOM NOM sound you hear is the right wing eating its own without a second thought. |

s2s2s2: If it will avoid our precious Eric having to answer for what happened on his watch, I too will be for allowing people in high places to get away with it! He did answer. I'm sorry that his answers will not lead to Obammy's impeachment, but he did answer. Frankly, I wish he had just done what Alberto Gonzalez and Ronald Reagan did and just repeatedly said "I don't recall" over and over again, just for the lulz. Even better would have been to insist on being questioned with Obama in private with no recording devices or transcripts like Bush and Cheney did for the 9/11 commission. That would have been hilarious! |

At least, to conservatives. In fact, forget the power part. Professors are elites. Scientists are elites. Teachers are elites. Anyone who dares to use an Apple product or drink Starbucks is an elite as long as they have an Obama bumper sticker. $50 billion brother pair who pulls strings throughout the country's power structure based on their own self-aggrandizement and nothing else? Not elite. |

If you use the term "so-called," you don't need quote marks around the term of, um, so-calling. I assume everybody at the American Thinker must be too busy thinking about larger-scale topics and complex issues to bother with the miscellany of properly writing the language in which one's paid to write. Oh, shiat, does this make me a so-called "elite?" |

Mrtraveler01: Bloody William: U.S. Extreme Court's That's just beautiful. Reactionary really is the best term for these people because they're purely reactive to whatever is happening at the moment. There is no consideration for trends or history, just the immediate response that if someone does something you disagree with, they are the enemy and nothing else matters. |

Perhaps, were Representative Issa investigating the demonstrable incompetence within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that resulted in the failure of "Fast and Furious" rather than investigating a dubiously extant hypothesis of a conspiracy originating with President Obama to conduct a deliberately botched operation as a pretense for advocating new and unreasonable restrictions upon civilian firearm ownership, individuals actually culpable for the resulting disaster may have been identified by this time. |
||
| DamnYankees This is 100% true. It's just that for liberals, elites are generally deemed to mean multi-billionaires to who have incredible access to power and influence, while for conservatives, elites mean scientists who spend all day in a lab and make 5 figure salaries. |

I don't quite get it. If you're rich and conservative, you're a "job creator". You are what others aspire to be. But if you're rich and progressive, you're an elitist. If you have an education and are progressive you are also an elitist. I think the problem is there's no word for identifying willingly ignorant people who are highly opinionated and highly uninformed. Dilettantes? I think the only problem is none of them have the wherewithal to actually find out what the word means. Naturally there are a plethora of names that are, more or less, ad hominems, despite being technically accurate (stupid, idiotic et al.). Can we come up with an easily identifiable and catchy term for ignorant conservative knuckle-draggers? |

verbaltoxin: Isn't it just a Congressional hearing? Can they even arrest people? For contempt of Congress, yes. Without and involvement of the executive branch, either house of Congress can charge, try and convict, similarly to an impeachment trial. Congress has its own jail and can hold someone till the end of the session. It's one of those things they just don't do anymore, like declaring war. In Holder's case they referred the charge to the DOJ, which of course did nothing just as Republicans would expect them not to. |

Bottom line giving guns to the cartels is something you'd figure would be a plot in a syfy movie except they'd be tainted with some virus that turns them into zombies, except unexpectedly they'd still retain the knowledge of how to use the weapons and then you'd have a zombie Apocalypse with guns. But in the real world someone should get in some serious shiat for this but having the people with zero credibility suddenly demanding justice if anything it is going to make it less apt to happen. For instance as soon as I heard teabaggers start conspiracying out on this shiat when it first came out I figured it was all bullshiat reflexively but after reading and hearing about it more it is obviously a serious issue, most people though don't bother looking into it more though. |

| jayhawk88 Yeah! DAMN RIGHT! Prosecute those elites to the fullest extent of the law for trashing the economy! Take them to court and make them pay for fleecing the American people for billions upon billions, through their reckless manipulation of the housing market! According to Wikipedia nobody has been tried for this crime since Rita Lavelle in 1983 when she was convicted of lying during that Superfund scandal. Also, it stinks of more than just a little bit of bullshiat that any Congressman can just go line-fishing for generic documents internal to another branch of government then start charging people with a crime when they're told to kiss off and go back to work instead of wasting everyone's time. |
