NHL Commissioner Gary Buttman reduces suspension of NHL player who was suspended for 25 games because of a brutal head shot on Marian Hossa in the playoffs. Oh and the player is on the team Buttman owns

1. Conflict of interest since Bettman owns the Coyotes.
2. This was likely a deal he cut with Jamison at some point.
3. Hossa still can't play contact hockey
4. He has never reduced a suspension before.
5. Torres should have been banned from the league
6. This does not show the NHL is tough on head shots

7. IMPEACH BUTTMAN

And will likely sit a large portion of next season. And probably never be the same player he was before.

Bettman should never go to a Chicago game again or else it could end up causing a riot.. but then again Chicagonians aren't like Montrealers so anything like the Maurice Richard riot probably won't happen.

Not white knighting for Bett(ergetabucket)man but it's only 4 less games.
and without pre-season games and the first eight, it'll be January before Torres is up-to-speed.
(assuming there is a season at all, but I digress...)

Now what should have happened is done for the playoffs and the number of games of the suspension starts with games he gets paid to play... 21, 25 whatever, would have farked his year and killed a quarter of his pay.

and if the coyotes lost in the 1st round he would have missed less than 4 gms
that wouldve been unacceptable

he left his feet, hit was late, hossa is still out, hes not better

bad move bettman, you will regret this someway

Phoenix is getting special treatment here obviously. This has never been done before. Assman has never went against his disciplinary panel and reduced a suspension. The suspension and number of games was justified.
Fark politics in hockey thats all this is

wut?

13 playoff games this past year plus 8 more next season instead of 12. had they gone out in the first round (game 7 for example) it would have counted 3 games in the playoffs and now 18 next season (as apposed to the 22 that would have been.)

How the hell does hockey allow one of the owners to be the commish? I will never respect this league or watch any of its games with that cockamamie lack of standards of fairness. It might as well be scripted. This baboon will enact policies left and right that will favor his team going to the playoffs and winning championships.

Uh, so? He took four games off of the suspension. Sucks for Hossa but that's still a hell of a suspension.

Pretty sure Chicago injures their share of other players so I've got a hard time feeling any sort of pity towards them.

That would be great, then he would be given a nice long suspension and Torres would be gone for a while.

Kaleta-Ott-McCormick

Too soon for that.
At the evening presser, Darcy said they were still very much in the market. My (semi-informed) guess is that R Nash or B Ryan are the primary targets right now.

Either might involve trading Vanek, but I'm ok with that since the poor guy is the verge of falling apart anyway.

Steve Ott was traded into the same division as the Bruins?

The Sabres did need some extra snarl in their lineup, and I'm convinced Hodgson will turn out better than Roy in a couple years anyway, so I like the trade for them in an impartial sense...but...Ott in the Northeast Division now? Oh my...grab your popcorn, ladies and gents.

This has nothing to do with the NHLPA

It has everything to do with the NHLPA.

This is Bettman saying to them "See? The appeals process has merit!"

Given the press surrounding the hit I'm sure Bettman would've liked nothing better than to fire Torres in to the sun.

Unless you really think Raffi Torres is the person to make or break Phoenix in terms of competitiveness or profit. That would be stupid, to put it mildly.

A fourth line of Kaleta-Ott-McCormick/Tropp could quickly become the most hated line in the East.

As a Sabres fan, I kind of love that. Team needed some sandpaper.
