| Strange, building a ramp all the way across a highway with just two little orange flags for warning seems perfectly safe. In other news, cue Dukes of Hazzard theme music |

| NewportBarGuy Bang up job with the camera, dillhole. Did you work on Cloverfield too? |
||
| Eddy Gurge Worst camera man in a while. Dick. |
||
| Relatively Obscure And the cameraman has a seizure mid-video. Awesome. Dude probably ignored a million sets of signs set up in front of those two. |
||
| violentsalvation Yeah, just lay the camera down. |
||
| Krymson Tyde
Well ol' Roscoe wasn't expecting the trap the Duke Boys had set for him. [vehicle jumps and swerves out of control] Folks 'round here call that a "Hazzard County Hog Jerk" |

Headline, no makes sense. Written by the now-brain-damaged driver? |

| markie_farkie This many comments already, and NOBODY'S mentioned the shiatty camera "work" yet? Slackers. |

Theme Music? More like the horn that plays "Dixie." And I can't believe that NOBODY'S mentioned the shiatty camera "work" yet. Slackers. |

Maybe the camera man got hit with some shrapnel. |

Tag must be for the camera operator, amirite? |

No one built a ramp. The road buckled from the heat, instead of closing it they just put up some shiatty signs. Story about it: Link |

Natural hazzard. |

That was awesome! I can't stop laughing |

And even when filmtard accidentally catches the SUV suddenly rediscovering it's ancestry, he/she moves the camera so we miss that too. Egh. |

| Endive Wombat So the city is going to be paying out a lot of money to suv ramp jumper guy now huh? |
||
| Devolving_Spud
If only there was a solid surface on which cameraman could have rested the camera to get a steady shot. Maybe a 3 foot high wall made of concrete or some such thing... |
||
| Makh Between roadway crew, city, SUV driver, cameraperson, and link headline, all of it was dumb. This is the best example of idiocracy. It has to be a combined effort from the top down. |

TyrantII: styckx: No one built a ramp. The road buckled from the heat, instead of closing it they just put up some shiatty signs. Story about it: Link [i.imgur.com image 457x344] That's going to be a huge lawsuit. F'in morons. Probably not. In most cases, the governing authority limits its own liability regarding road problems, and depending how the law reads, those flags might be sufficient notice. (Where I live, the legal equivalent works something like: If you pass this sign, you accept this fact: Slow the fark down and be careful, 'cause we ain't paying if you break something on this stretch. If you don't like this, don't pass this sign.) Put other way, the Duke Boys were likely given adequate notice, and disregarded it. They're probably entitled to nothing but scorn and derision. I know a lot of leadfoots consider it their personal right to have a cash-starved authority provide a glass-flat autobahn for their sole enjoyment, and keep it in perfect condition, and have their own mother sent to notify them of any imperfections that might harsh their mellow before it can be perfectly regraded again, but it turns out that's not actually how it works. Apparently, we're all supposed to share in the cost and responsibility, it seems. Damned imperfect world! It also turns out that even in the U.S., you really can't just sue anyone anytime you want, and you're not actually entitled to joy and happiness on the public dime. Who knew? |

Of course the title on the video is confusing until it starts. It leaves the impression that the person with the camera saw the obstacle itself do a little leap. What happened to the car following behind the obstacle as said obstacle is leaping isn't known until the video plays. |

Nothing to be proud of Russ... |

| Giltric If only someone would invent something to allow the expansion and contraction of a road surface in extreme temperatures. |

Title of TFV: "Driver don't see the obstacle in front of him do massive jump" Brilliant. |
||
| spittman
Something similar to this happened on the PA turnpike about 15 years ago. A section of the road buckled and several cars went airborne before they closed it down and fixed the problem. |

While that may be the case, it is still irresponsible for the city/county to leave a stretch of highway with a 2'-3' "ramp" in the middle of it open. When did it buckle? Did it create a 3' ramp right away, or did it maybe have a small bump at first? Did anyone reasonably expect the pavement to suddenly create a 3' ramp? How long was it like this before the road was closed? How long between when authorities were aware of this, to when they closed it? This happened in real time in a relatively rural area. It's not like they detect it immediately with their county-wide surveillance camera network and then instantly deploy Highway Heat Buckle Rapid Response Team Delta (HHBRRT-D), which is on standby at all times. |

| Mr. Cat Poop Looks like about a 50 yard jump. |

| Smeggy Smurf Had it been one of those super aerodynamic vehicles he could have gotten a couple dozen more yards out of that. |

headline begs the question... Why didn't the driver see the obstacle in front of him do a massive jump? why ? why ? |

If it really was that high (which would be enormous) -- I don't know what your source is -- I'd agree with you. I'm not sure it was that high. I also wonder if perhaps it wasn't that high when they first marked it. But in general, I agree that a clear and dangerous road hazard should be more than just marked. |

bikerific: How long between when authorities were aware of this, to when they closed it? long enough to put up a flag on the left and a flag on the right, and then leave, rather than, say, a line of cones/barrels that would merge you into the other lane |

| Retractable Weeners
This happens almost regularly in WI when it gets hot. They fix it at night when it cools down and traffic sucks less. I hit one of those that wasn't anywhere near that big. It must have happened a right in front of me. The car in front of me was ~50' ahead and never hit a thing. I know I went airborne doing about 50 mph. My front tires didn't hit much, they might have been what set it off. The back end bucked like a mule. I got a good foot of air for sure (probably underestimating). Of course nobody else saw it. |
||
| Ed Finnerty
Yeah but I'll bet they slow the fark down the next time they come up on orange flags. |

I made myself not pull over and check things out because if I did I might not get back in and go, and I was following a girl back to my place. As long as the truck was still going, I was too. I was in a Denali and all the shiat in the back nailed the roof and crashed back into the floor just as fast. The next day going up that ramp I was biatching at my roommate because its a curved ramp and the buckle was at the top and he flew up it in his Mustang and there was just a repaired patch where my fun was, hardly a bump. The car I was following was a Jetta and when we got to my place I asked her about it, she had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. Pucker factor 7/10. |
