Well, only the top two are gone... Grizzly Smith died in 2010, Davey Boy Smith died in 2002. However, J.T. Smith, and Sam Houston (aka Michael Smith, son of Grizzly Smith, brother of Jake Roberts (Aurelian Smith) and Rockin' Robin Smith) are both still alive, as are Jake and Robin. Also, Speaking of Grizzly and his progeny, you could really say that the Smith family provided us with a lot of great moments over the years. Grizzly was also a booker in WCW, and was responsible for a lot of Cactus Jack's run. And Jake... Jake had a great mind for the business, but dulled it with too many chemicals. And Robin... well, she botched America The Beautiful at Wrestlemania V. The Smith family... they had a tremendous impact wherever they were. |

British Bulldog was one of my favorite wrestlers. I loved that press he had and the Union Jack was a cool addition. I cried when I found he died. /not really, but my 12 yr old self did. |

FirstNationalBastard: And Jake... Jake had a great mind for the business, but dulled it with too many chemicals. Jake is someone I really missed out on. I was very young during his WWE run and never got to watch him at his best. I hear so many good things about his mic work and understanding of how the business works but it is tough to find older stuff online. |

The good news is the matches will get released on DVD and the internet, and either Classics on Demand or WWE Network will probably make use of the weekly shows to fill their programming needs. The documentaries are secondary. But the matches and shows? That's the goldmine. |

IIRC his more heelish persona was started around the time he was in Florida and helped Kevin Sullivan win a loser-leaves-town match with Dusty in a cage. It was further developed when he was the "jewel" of Paul Ellering's "Legion of Doom" stable w/ the Road Warriors and King Kong Bundy |

I was always curious what that meant, "Jake had a good mind for the business." I honestly have no idea what that means, because as soon as he should've been going to the next level, he descended into a pile of cocaine. We really missed out on what could've been a legendary heel run in the 90s. Nobody was more hated than Jake in 1992. Flair looked like a chump compared to Jake. |

Besides being one of the best interviews and a very credible worker, even though he had a potbelly and knobby knees, Jake could have been a great booker. In fact, the reason he left WWF in 1992 is rumored to be that after Pat Patterson was fired in the wake of the ringboy scandals, Jake went to Vince and requested to come off the road as a fulltime wrestler and finally join the booking crew in Pat's old spot. Vince said no, so Jake quit. And after that, Jake's career really went to shiat. When he came back in '96 as Religious Jake, he was again part of the booking crew. But, his "personal demons" led to things not working out, and that's where we see him in Beyond The Mat. |

Mid South, Georgia Championship Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling. What the hell happened?! Why are these places mark central now? |

Becoming a drug addict doesnt mean you didnt have a good mind for what you were doing before that. |
||
| FirstNationalBastard verbaltoxin: Mid South, Georgia Championship Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling. What the hell happened?! Why are these places mark central now? WCW. Eve though they were technically a global company, WCW was still based out of Georgia, and their hotbed was the old Mid-Atlantic territory (VA, SC, NC, GA, FL). And WCW torched those areas and salted the earth in their final years. |
||
| Rwa2play FirstNationalBastard: Yeah, unlike the crap WWE comes out with, a real DID YOU KNOW is that Jake and King Kong Bundy were original members of the Legion of Doom before Hawk and Animal split off solo as the Road Warriors. This. That was a pretty feared stable back then because of who was involved. verbaltoxin: I was always curious what that meant, "Jake had a good mind for the business." I would assume that "having a good mind for the business" was knowing how to tell a story in and out of the ring. A real good feud with two or more people that knew how to push the audience's buttons got fans into "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" mode when the match was set. That's why I love a lot of the Southern-based promotions: they *knew* how to push the right buttons to a feud. Mid-Atlantic, GCW, CWF, Bill Watts' Mid-South pretty much wrote the book on it. |

Any excuse to keep that belt around and give Vince the finger, I suppose. But yes it's pretty telling that the only thing going in the South is TNA. NWA Wilside was around for a while but Bill Behrens ditched it to work for the Jarretts. It's been pretty scarce though. |

| TheManofPA So we are just letting JFSP win with the Cena picture tonight right? That's a rule for events like this, kind of like how the faces always get the last laugh in a dark match. |
||
| TheManofPA Due to wildfires, they are doing Raw/Smackdown tapings both on Monday next week so don't expect much wrestling (less than normal). I'm on vacation all week so good luck without me. |

So has anyone heard from [redacted] today? |
||
| FirstNationalBastard Also, speaking of Davey Boy Smith earlier... This was Davey and Dynamite Kid in the early 80s... ![]() Here they are in '86 ![]() Steroids, eh? And it took its toll. Dynamite wound up a cripple, and his cousin Davey Boy wound up dead. And it made him do some crazy shiat. If you look around the 'net, you can find the book written by Diana Hart-Smith, with all the horrible allegations of various things like guns, roofies, rape, suicide attempts... Although Miss Hart-Smith now says she regrets writing the book. Davey Boy and Diana's son, David Hart-Smith was in the WWE for a while as part of the Hart Dynasty, and was involved with both TNA's Ring Ka King and a new Stampede for a while. |

| TheManofPA verbaltoxin: So has anyone heard from [redacted] today? FYI, you aren't going to I just want to know who the other matches are going to be if they are doing a 20 man battle royale. It would be great if the BR went for an hour, I'd be down with that. Winner is Smackdown's GM because supposedly Monday will have a big name that can only do one night. Who knows what "Big Name" for WWE means....maybe the hot chick from Suits (fight amongst yourself who that is) |
