Why would they be? Kenmore is their flagship line - I don't even know if they sell Whirlpool. |

Installing wooden floors in your kitchen is a super smart idea. |

| lantawa Looks like these folk decided to go bare regarding homeowner insurance. If they were properly insured, that would've taken care of the problem. |

Just for future reference, no one cares when you whine to the consumerist. /this is not Sears' problem |

That article was scant on details. Was the installation the problem? Did the washer leak internally? That sets who your recourse is more appropriately filed with - Sears or Whirlpool. And I don't know how you put up with four months. I'd have my payment cancelled and disputed after a day of the run-around. The Consumerist isn't going to help you. |

| akula 1) Don't put wood floors in your kitchen. If you choose to disregard this advice, you're trolling for trouble. 2) Maintain good insurance. That will make good most of your loss. 3) Why are they griping about Sears and not Whirlpool? Unless a Sears tech installed it incorrectly the dishwasher is NOT their problem. They sold it, they didn't make it. The person complains about Sears passing the buck when they need to be complaining about Whirlpool passing the buck. Typical Consumerist stupid BS. Something goes wrong, then complain about how a party who wasn't at fault didn't french kiss your cornhole to make it all better. |

So, why the fark have these dipshiats not lawyered up and sued everybody? You sue Sears, Whirlpool, the guys that installed the dishwasher, the guys that installed the floor, the floor manufacturer and the water company. Seriously folks you can't expect companies or corporations to play nice, never call them first in a product liability issue, call your lawyer first and have your lawyer call them. |

Or just file your homeowners insurance claim, get your check in a few weeks, and let them fight it out. |

I've never heard of a manufacturer covering secondary damage. No one is dumb enough to sign themselves up for what is essentially unlimited liability. The only way Sears would have a stake in this is if they installed the dishwasher. |

CSB Time: The sub contractors that Home Depot used to install my dryer did it wrong and the resulting short sparked and set some insulation on fire. Luckily I was in the laundry room at the time with a fire extinguisher nearby so no real damage was done. Called LG (model of dryer) they sent out guy to check on it who refused to service it because it had been installed wrong. Called Home Depot got the run around then they send out the same guy with 1 part, when I asked him if he can be certain that more of the electronics didn't get screwed by the improper grounding and the resulting short/fire. He just shrugged, replaced the part and the dryer wouldn't run. Call Home Depot again and they tell me to contact the installer......umm no my contract for installation was with HD if they sub out the installation that's on them. 2 months later I take dryer to HD, unload it in front of store and start telling people my tale until the manager comes out and gives me a replacement and $300 to have my own installer come out. /Will not shop at HD ever again |

Doh! I missed the parenthesis! But, as Mr. Breeze corrected, I would think they're only at fault if the flood was the result of improper installation. |

When you use a dishwasher for the first time, you're supposed to be there to monitor these sorts of things. They even tell you this in the manual, repeatedly. |

THIS is the American way. Sad but true, and in this case, damned good advice. I repair appliances for a living. It is almost certainly a bad installation by Sears. Didn't put a clamp on the drain hose or something simple like that. |

lantawa Does that mean you're confused sunshine? Let me educate you as clearly your parents, school and life have not. If you are foolish to put in a claim on your homeowners insurance for a measly 4k, your premium increase next term will pay that back to the insurance co. two fold. |
