| cman Cant say I blame them. Cheating tools could be easily created to simulate WINE-like conditions, getting passed many anti-cheat protections. It sucks like hell as there are many games that I cannot play under OS X online. /That is why you have a VM. Parallels for OS X is the best damn thing to ever happen for VM technology |

| Weaver95 A third party program is any file or program that is used in addition to the game to gain an unfair advantage. These programs may increase movement speed or teleport heroes from one place to another beyond what is allowed by game design. It also includes any programs that obtain information from the game that is not normally available to the regular player or that transmit or modify any of the game files. WINE does none of these things. f*ck you blizzard. |

i waited with great anticipation for this game. but using every ounce of willpower for d3 in particular i now usually wait at least a month to get a game so they can fix the bugs and get out some patches and for a community to take shape. because of this and their awful launch i will now not buy that damn game, well maybe 2 years from now when it is $10. that is just infuriating and I dont even use linux (but i might someday). |

Already debunked. They are not banning specifically for WINE. The 'hacking' thing was a myth as well. |

Debunked: "We've not found any situations that could produce a false positive, have found that the circumstances for which they were banned were clear and accurate, and we are extremely confident in our findings. Playing the game on Linux, although not officially supported, will not get you banned - cheating will." |

I had a huge anticipation for Diablo 3. My PC wasn't up to date to play it and only upgraded last week. Everything I hear about it makes it sound like a Fuster Cluck of epic proportions, and I'll probably stick to spending my money on something else now. Mechwarrior Online comes out next month so spent the $60 on an elite founders edition. Will enjoy Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and Civ 5 while i wait... |

When exactly is Torchlight II coming out? About a month ago they said it will be another month. Speculatively, it seems like Blizzard might have gotten some kickback from Microsoft and Apple for exclusivity clauses - or some such - and they are afraid of testing that with users using Wine... |
||
| Strik3r
Sounds like some hackers are WINEing because they will not be able to hack into D3 via Linux. |

Not sure I buy the debunk, just because Blizzard issues a statement. What are they gonna say, "Yep, we're giant assholes and we ban paying customers just 'cause we don't want the tech support calls?" Why would someone who knew he was cheating make his ban for cheating public and announce himself to be a cheater? |

D3 is the Justin Beiber/Nickleback of video games. All fluff, no substance. People that are dumb enough to pay for this game deserve all the pain they get. |

meh, i read Blizzard's response. evidently not 100% of linux wine users were banned. oh well. |

The Flexecutioner: Creative Name: Already debunked. They are not banning specifically for WINE. The 'hacking' thing was a myth as well. [citation needed.jpg] I'm not giving a citation per sey, but Wine is just a windows gaming emulator that runs under Linux (more or less). I've known few people who have used it in the past to play another Blizzard title, World of Warcraft. One of the users said that the game seemed more responsive under Wine on Linux than on Windows. Blizzard didn't seem to mind then. Now, that being said, are their additional programs that can run in conjunction with Wine that can cause a cheat situation? I don't know. That seems far fetched however. I'm rather inclined to think like LordStorms and think Blizzard doesn't want to deal with Support issues that deal with users using Wine. |

I was epically underwhelmed by Diablo III. 10 years to make something with an isometric view that feels like a rehashed game? No thanks. I've gone back to SW:tOR now that they have group finder. |

| PsyLord What about making a video of you killing the bosses on Inferno difficulty while having your eyes closed? Videotaping the gameplay against the EULA? /decided against buying Starcraft II and D3 |

Slam Dunkz: D3 is the Justin Beiber/Nickleback of video games. yep. i got to act 4 inferno in under 125 hours without cheesing it. mostly by 'playing' the auction house and not 'playing' the game. gradually began spending 90% of the time on the AH and 10% of the time naked in a game except for runspeed gear running back and forth between my stash and the crafter NPC. haven't killed a monster since May, and haven't logged into the game at all now two weeks. oh well =( /definitely let-down of the year. if you haven't already gotten it, save your cash. it'll be on sale soon. |

jagarr: /definitely let-down of the year. if you haven't already gotten it, save your cash. it'll be on sale soon. Well, Blizz already made their $60 (or whatever) off of a lot of people, so their bank account is going to be good. What'll hurt is their cost to maintain the servers and fix/add content combined with no continual income by people passing on the RMAH. As far as sale pricing D3, the closest you'll get to that is combo packs. Blizz doesn't like to drop the price of games. It will be interesting to see if T2 decimates the D3 playerbase. I play WoW and noticed a definite lack of people on my server for the first couple of weeks after D3 came out, but now the population appears to be back to full strength. And in case you wonder, I can tell from the activity on my server's AH (both factions); kinds of things on sale, prices, number of auctions, etc. It is a very good indicator of relative population. BTW, I think it's funny that maintenance day for both games is on the same day... if they were on different days I'm sure the D3 servers would get pounded by everyone coming over while waiting on the WoW servers. However, it still *feels* like you're getting shafted. |

The fact I have to agree to terms of service agreements before actually playing the game was enough to keep me from getting D3. I will not pay for the "privilege" to play video games, Bobby. |

So let me get this straight. You: a) Chose to play the game primarily by playing in the most grind-intensive way imaginable. b) Chose to game the AH rather than the game itself. c) Did the above two for 125 hours in the first 15 days of release. And you still call the game a failure. You deliberately played the game in the most tedious and non-entertaining way possible, and played the game more than 8 hours per day. And you want to blame Blizzard that it was a bad game. The game doesn't suck. You're just farking stupid. |
||
| OriginalGamer
He may have played it stupid, but the game does massively suck. |
||
| Bacon Bits
OriginalGamer: He may have played it stupid, but the game does massively suck. I disagree. The game certainly isn't perfect and has numerous issues (as does any online multiplayer game 8 weeks out) but Diablo 3 has already corrected the majority of fundamental design issues from Diablo 2: awful skill point system, ability point system requiring foreknowledge of endgame gear stat requirements, horrible group loot, horrible PvP system (Google TPPK), offline play allowing gear duping, artificial difficulty from resist penalties, no respec, horrible skill balance, mandatory scrolls, horrible potion belt system. People today just look at that game with rose-colored glasses because they were 12 when they played it and didn't know shiatty game design when it bit them on the ass. D2 was not even remotely balanced or bug free until the expansion, and the same complaint of rares being so much better than uniques and sets was there at release, too. Blizz fixed it by just reducing the number of affixes on rares, and then steadily adding more and more ridiculous uniques. Take a look at the D2 patch notes and look how often they nerf Static Charge, Corpse Explosion, and Conviction. Did you know the Paladin's Conversion skill made the player all but immortal before 1.01? That got nerfed into the ground. Keep in mind that this is before Blizz was honest about patch notes, so "Fixed Spell Description" actually means "nerfed". "Fixed Iron Maiden+Blood Golem bug and increased the Blood Golem's Life stealing" means "totally nerfed Iron Maiden's synergy with Blood Golem but increased inherent Life Steal to make it less obvious". |

Also, looking forward to stories, sometime around January-February, about parents all of a sudden discovering real money tax liabilities from their kids playing on D3's RMAH when the 1099 forms start showing up in mailboxes. Mom: Billy, why does it say here that you earned $10,000? When did you get a job? What did you do with the money? Billy: Huh? I didn't get no job. Mom: Well, this form says some company named... um, Blizzard(?) gave you $10,000. That's a lot of money Billy. Billy, Oh, that. Nah, that's not a job. That's from that game you got me last year, Diablo 3... I've been selling some of the shi... er, loot I find in the game (remember, I told you one time what loot was.) Yeah, so I find junk and sell it on an online flea market kind of place. People buy my stuff with real money and I get Blizzard Bux (tm) to buy Blizzard stuff with. Mom: What??? You sell things from the game... wait, no, you SOLD $10,000 worth of, of loot thingies, but you don't have any money? Billy: Wow, cool, shi... er, heck, wait'll I tell everyone how much I sold. I never paid attention to how much it was. The only thing I remember was to spend it so that it wouldn't go over, like, $4,000 Blizzard Bux (tm), otherwise I'd have to get a PayPal something to convert it to real money. Mom: What??????????????????? You have a... a... a... $10farking,000 earning and no money to pay the taxes on it... I'm going to faint, I need to sit down, I NEED A DAMNED DRINK. Billy, where's mommy's pills? |
