Fan shouts advice to Victor Troicki on how to beat Novak Djokovic; Troicki playfully offers the fan his racket. Cool: Troicki took his advice, won the point (though he lost the match)

Pretty awesome.

I've been watching Wimbledon in earnest for the first time ever and I must say, almost all tennis players are extremely classy. Bit of a rarity for professional athletes.

One of the Williams sisters is a complete class act while the other one is a spoiled brat. I forget which one is which though. But, yeah, most tennis players are the opposite of John McEnroe. Lindsay Davenport and Kim Clijsters are two of the nicest I can think of.

Troicki had no intentions of winning that match anyway.

I knew a guy who worked for the ATP, and dealt with the players on a daily basis. He said that if a plane carrying all of them crashed into a mountain, the world would be a better place.

That was in the late 80's though.

Eh. remember the 80s were McEnroe, Conners, Lendl, Borg, and Becker for the most part. If someone were working for players in the 80s, McEnroe and Conners were loud mouthed enough to make many people think about changing carriers. The women's site was much nicer in general. Between Seles, Navratalova, Graf, and Evert I can't think of many times where they flew off the handle. Of the group, Graf was the most likely to pop off with an insult, but nothing like Conners or McEnroe.

The 90s were a lot nicer. While Agassi was pretty foul mouthed early on, he mellowed out. Sampras was always a decent guy. Then you have the other players like Malivai Washington, Courier, Martian, Ivanisevic, Philippoussis and Michael Chang who were all good people.

Now you have a bigger mix. People like Tsonga who looks like he's going to roid rage at any given moment. But honestly nothing has gone back to the level of Conners McEnroe since then.

It's Chris Chase, he's one of Yahoo!'s foremost practitioners of "here's something really obvious that you've already noticed, let me squeeze a blog out of it". Most of his work is the most inane, analysis-free drivel you're ever likely to suffer through. Every one of his posts usually gets a lot of comments about how farking shiat he is at his job

Yeah, the histrionics are usually pretty reserved these days (moments like Nalbandian's recent episode are pretty rare). When you get players who are ill-tempered (Azarenka, for one), they tend to be pretty conspicuous.

That mid/late-80s ATP crew was pretty vile at times. For the most part, though, there's a lot more pleasantry between players than there once was. The women tend to be sheltered from the other players by their entourages, but even they all have friends among their colleagues.

\likes Darth Azarenka anyway

Well, McEnroe, Connors, Becker, and Lendl all had reputations for being jerks on occasion. I guess nowadays, pro players get training in PR that the previous generation didn't.
