Yahoo classified the footage as "stunning." Also, implosions are cooler. |

styckx: consider this: Did they mean to drop that one piece? Was wondering the same thing.. Seemed like an odd demo job.. Yeah, it was intentional. They brought all of the panels down like that. Easier than bringing in huge cranes for it. |

Came for Jean-Claude Van Damme, leaving satisfied. |

doglover: The Igloo was rather close to a holpital if I recall correctly. You are correct, good sir. I must admit, I am going to miss that place though. |
||
| FriarReb98 It was a unique arena that really didn't have anything like it anywhere. I'm not a Pens fan, but I still wouldn't be using the cool tag.... |

The Civic Arena sucked huge donkey testicles. Great memories of what went down there, but the place itself was horrible. Good Riddance. Also, this is much cooler than the timelapse I did from the garage of Mercy Hospital. |

9 months of dismantling the Civic Arena with a hand-held camera Dismantling an entire building with only a camera? No wonder it took 9 months. |

I figure some of the demolition issues might have been related to the construction of the building. Since it was built by a bunch of eggheads using sliderules and not some guys with CAD, there may have been things that were adjusted on the fly and not in the plans. |

| fatalvenom And nothing of value was lost. |

| W.C.fields forever I watched once..then I watched 5 times more.I focused on the parking situation.People parked in the same spots or as close to the same spots. OCD ..definitely OCD // I definitely have OCD |

The last time I was there was to see the pens play a preseason game the last year they were in the igloo...the new arena is much nicer, but I will miss seeing the igloo every time I go downtown |

The roof could open, which is why they brought it down panel by panel. It was architecturally unique and was built pretty much exclusively by Pittsburghers with Pittsburgh steel and aluminum. They tried to put too many seats in it, which caused all sorts of problems. It could have been re-purposed easily. Would have made a hell of a casino, and they could have offered other attractions such as zip-lining across the dome. But parking revenue for hockey and eventual upscale shopping is more important, so down she came. Hell, I was just down there last night for the Roger Waters concert at the generic cardboard box arena across the street and they had a crew out there at 10:30 pm going into a holiday clearing rubble. I have to admit, the Consol Energy Center is a nice venue, but I doubt anyone sheds a tear in 15 years when it's torn down for structural deficiencies. |
