The owners of Chuck E. Cheese are rebooting the giant mouse as a hip, electric-guitar-playing rock star. No word if Poochie will provide backup vocals

Mac Tonight wanted to join that band, but that would be a conflict of interest.

Well, they do have a pizza-like foodstuff on their menu. It has bread, tomato sauce, "cheese" and circular meat-and-or-meat-by-product topping.

The employees of Chuck E. Cheese are made of diamond-encased hardened steel. Anyone who can work 8 hours while surrounded by 3,000 screaming kids has titanium nerves... or is a total burnout unaware of their surroundings. Yeah, I see your point.

I miss their OLD mascots. They were just creepy enough to be entertaining. And put on a show! Today, when I take my kids to CEC, all they have is a big projection screen with looped videos.

Maybe I was too naive to tell, but what I remember is Showbiz and Chuck E. Cheese being entirely separate outfits, with entirely separate sets of mascots and low-grade Animatronics in the main dining theater. I guess they must've merged somewhere along the line.

When I was a kid we went to a place called Magic Forest, which was basically a McD's ballpit to a factor of ten. It was huge, probably three stories of tunnels, ballpits, monkey bars, slides, you name it.

And adults were allowed.

/also, it had a Pizza Hut

Wait, isn't this a retread? I seem to remember the mouse playing guitar in zany green sharp-angled shades back in the early 90's.

PacManDreaming: I just wish they'd go back to the way things were in 1983...video games as far as the eye could see.

A few years ago, we went to Chuck E Cheese while desperately searching for a DDR machine anywhere in town. We got some really weird looks at the front, but they did let us in after explaining that was all we wanted... all for naught, as there was no DDR to be seen. Foiled.

Showbiz bought Chuck E Cheese in 1984 with most Showbiz's switching to the Chuck E Cheese concept or closing by the end of the 80s.

We are all pretty excited about this new re-imaging of Chuck E. The last time he was updated was about a decade ago, so this has the potential to reintroduce Chuck E. to an all new generation of kids. In fact, I will be spending most of tomorrow hanging a lot of new POP so that our guest can warm up the the newer image.

Although I am pretty pumped, there is one aspect to the new campaign that is disappointing for me. The advertising slogan for this new roll-out is "Say Cheese, It's Funner." I don't think that a national advertising campaign should use a non-word like that, but corporate doesn't pay me to think.

Just my $.02.

Last time I went to CEC, they were hyping the new pizza, which was simultaneously a significant improvement, and crap.
What did impress me were the measures they took to keep creeps out, and make sure the kids leave with the person they came in with. In today's world, a big thumbs up...

It's almost, but not quite, entirely unlike pizza. You could get the food dispensers to make a more realistic product, but it would be more of a headache than you would expect.

If you're working on liquor licenses in Missouri, can you not worry so much about whether CEC can serve beer and worry more about whether the local tavern in more rural counties can be open on Sunday? It would make my trips there much more enjoyable. THX!
