What's black and sits at the top of the stairs? Stephen Hawking after a house fire. |
| doglover I wouldn't go either. Throw a pan galactic perpetual orgy and just ask people their birthdays mid coitus. 9/10 will tell the truth. Observe anyone who was born after the present. |

| optikeye Of course no one showed, it was a strictly Cash bar. |
| NFA I love how Hawking believes that he's such a significant figure in physics that a time traveler would want to meet him when that traveler would have all the events in history to occupy their time. |
| djkutch Obamacare has laid waste to the man. Sad, really. |

Thats ok Steven, im sure they showed up in the party you threw in alternate universes. |
| Makh He didn't tell me. Which I find insulting, so I'm not going. |
| Lionel Mandrake That's a worse turnout than Kirk Cameron's party. |
| Darth_Lukecash Was busy saving the universes... |

That turned out about as well as my support group for procrastinators. |
| Mugato Stephen Hawking: 'I Held A Party For Time-Travellers... But None Came' I wouldn't be able to come either. In fact I don't think I'll be able to come for a long time now. |
| doglover Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: That turned out about as well as my support group for procrastinators. I'll get there one day.... |

| Relatively Obscure "Further evidence that there isn't any intelligent life within a few hundred light years comes from the fact that SETI, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Life I can't trust anyone who sucks at acronyms. |
| ArkAngel They showed up. It just happened that time travel was invented and controlled by ninjas |
| Mugato I respect Stephen Hawking, read his books and acknowledge that he's a fark-ton smarter than I am but he's gone a little batty lately with the alien and time travel stuff. Unless he's just farking with us. |
| eraser8 I threw a party in high school and nobody showed up. That's how I discovered high school kids are all imaginary. |
| Because People in power are Stupid That was future Stephan Hawking in the photos. |

djkutch: Obamacare has laid waste to the man. Sad, really. He's just lucky he was born in the US. Under the UK health system, he would have been left to die of exposure or something. |

That was such a massive boner that I seriously suspect that someone on the IBD staff was secretly in favor of Obamacare. |

| Triumph FTA: "I'm discounting claims that UFOs contain aliens. Why would they appear only to cranks and weirdos?" he asked. I mean seriously - why do wackos like Dan Akroyd get all the fun while super-serious guys in wheelchairs like Hawking get ignored by the time travellers and aliens? Akroyd even says he tangled with the MIB while he was outside chatting on the phone with Britney Spears. |

| Three Crooked Squirrels Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: I just checked your profile for the first time in awhile, and you currently have 4321 greenlit links. Unless you manipulated that somehow, that is totally cool. In your honor. |
| Di Atribe Wait. HOLD ON. If he didn't send out the invites until after the party was over, then the timeline in which people received the invites didn't exist until after the party in the original timeline was over. So maybe they DID show up, but it happened in the past in THIS timeline in which the invitees were alerted, but it couldn't have happened in the timeline in which he recently lived in which the invitees were not alerted. Unless it was a fixed point in the Universe's timeline, it can be fixed. And I really doubt his stupid party was a fixed point. I mean really, Steve. Yeah, I've seen Back to the Future a few times. Plus Doctor Who. Got yer timelines right here, biatches. |

Unless he's just farking with us. Actually his "ZOMG Aliunz!" stuff is correct. Chances are, if aliens visit, we're boned. |

Actually, they haven't shown up yet. Once they do show up, history is rewritten from that point onwards to make up the change. And we wouldn't know any better if our past was changed |

Time travel raises interesting questions about free will. Everyone is of course aware of the grandfather paradox; you can't, presumably, go back in time and kill your grandfather before your father is conceived. But consider the opposite situation: what if you are your grandfather? You would have no choice but to go back in time and bone your grandmother. Of course no one showed up; the party isn't a part of their past. That doesn't mean time travel is impossible. Let's say, hypothetically, that Hitler was a time traveller. 26th century Hitler lives in a world in which WW2 and the Holocaust are a part of history, and if he refused to take his part in history the consequences would be impossible to predict, and potentially terrible. He would have no choice, therefore, but to go back in time and do his part, both to preserve his own existence and to preserve the world that he knows. Time travel could be possible, but perhaps not for everyone; it may be that it is either impossible or absolutely required, depending on the individual. Going to Hawking's party would most likely not be in the cards. |
