The Fonz was a washed up former Milwaukee hipster, who couldn't even join a real motorcycle club and earn a living doing real MC shiat, living in the garage attic of his nerdy friend's parents who took pity on him. Hell, he didn't even have a real job until the later seasons when he got a job as a blazer-wearing substitute teacher - imparting his dirtbag wisdom to the wayward teens of a 1962 Milwaukee suburb.
