There was this little conflagration that was kind of keeping people busy. Maybe you've heard of it?

WORLD WAR II

Yes, World War 2 happened in the 60's.... sigh.

YouPeopleAreCrazy: WorldCitizen: Yay, another country ahead of the United States in equal rights.

Key words bolded. Do we want Washington to force the decision on the States?
What other powers do we want to grant to the current administration?
What powers do we want to grant to the next administration?

/think carefully about your answer

Civil marriage is a civil right. Yes, we do want civil rights to be enforced by the Fed, just like they have been since the Civil War. Some things should be left to the states to decide for themselves, but the self-evident rights of their citizens are not one of them. And it says so, right in the Constitution.

Wait, I thought in France, the gays out number straights 3 to 1. Why wouldn't they already have legal marriage and adoptions?

Vatican City. What do I win?

Damn. Good one.

Somalia.

I am going to rule against that one on a technicality. You need a government to make things legal or illegal.

I'm betting in 500 years Vatican City will still have a government, and Somalia won't.

This assumes that 500 years is enough time to allow Vatican City to be crushed and overrun by the gaywads, and rebuilt as a shrine to buttsex.

Mississippi still hasn't ratified the 13th Amendment.

Wow. I didn't know that.

Not true. 1996. It took them over 125 years, but give credit where it's due.

Technically, no... They voted on it and signed it, finally, but then they never sent the signed copy to Congress:
* Mississippi ratified the amendment in 1995, but because the state never officially notified the US Archivist, the ratification is not official.

Fun Fact: Parisians have a reputation for being rude to American tourists, but that is entirely unintentional, it's just hard to be friendly and welcoming when you've got a 40 cm dildo shoved into your anus.

===================================== =================

Considering like only 1 state has passed it by popular vote... 10 years is wildly optimistic for 3/4 of the states.

California will probably be legal if only for court rulings. New York I could see going for it very soon.

Hell, Hawaii, probably the bluest state in the nation has gay marriage ban in their constitution! Though, I could see that changing within 10 years.

But beyond those three states? I don't see many more.

/Sad as that is.

It's already legal in NY, Hawaii does not have a constitutional amendment banning it (just an amendment allowing it's state legislature to ban it that is over 10 years old). California will hopefully overturn prop 8 soon enough.

Other promising developments include the fact Washington and Minnesota's anti gay marriage trolls are not collecting as much money as the marriage equality groups. There is also hope in Illinois as there is a pending lawsuit challenging the anti gay marriage statute, and nobody of any relevance in the state is interested in defending the
statute in the state supreme court.

France has actually always been surprisingly uptight about certain things. Moreso than most Americans realize, but I think that goes back to WWI, with the French being so much friendlier to black American soldiers. Most of those guys thought France was paradise compared with what they had back home. So, Americans just assume that France is some sort of free for all orgy.

I wouldn't use the word "uptight" exactly. The French accepted that gay people exist, and that their condition is a natural state a long time ago. They just relegated being gay to the class of social states that is generally kept private. Someone being gay doesn't confer the same sort of shunning and social disadvantages that it does in some parts of the States, but people also don't really "come out" there.

I guess what I'm saying is that thier "uptight" doesn't carry the same puritanistic agressiveness that ours does.

's true. Even though Obama will be with servicemen right here in America, the Republiconservabertarian echo chamber (Karl Rove included) have been trying to push "Obama will spend July 4th in France."

Let's look at the moronic Neds, and point, and laugh.

Hell, far from disinterest, the State's Attorney filed a brief that basically said "Yeah, the Plaintiff is right, it is unconstitutional." The state essentially conceded on the issue.

The person named as the defendant in the lawsuit, the Clerk of Cook County, has said the suit is right, it is a violation of constitutional protections to deny gays and lesbians marriage licenses. Of course this shouldn't be too much a surprise. Illinois was the first state to do away with all laws that made homosexuality illegal, back in 1963.

Once the US Supreme Court rules eventually rules on this an legalizes gay marriage for the entire country, we can finally put this divisive social issue behind us and move on as a society.

Just like we did with abortion.

Seriously, no need to drag it out. The whole anti-gay rhetoric is ready to go up in flames. There's no way those whack jobs could top their own antics....they've reached rock bottom now. And when you reach rock bottom, it's hard to dig deeper and flesh out the finer details you'll need to penetrate the veneer those people paint with vibrant rainbow colors and their skimpy clothing.

/Weirdly, under the Code Napoleon, France has allowed gay adoption/partnership for years. Basically, any man could adopt anyone he wanted at any age (like the Romans used to do) so it was not uncommon for a gay man to adopt his lover, which then gave both men all the rights of family.

Remembering that: while Jesus never said anything negative about homosexuality, he had no qualms about healing a boy sex slave of a Roman soldier as a favor to the soldier.

Get the ball rolling on that

Obama could do what the Canadian liberals did, let it go to court and then after the court says its constitutional he can say he will not appeal because the top court would likely go with the lower court so to save money and everyones time announce they will make it legal themselves.. he would need a majority to do that though I guess
